My new Roommate

A 'zz plant'http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZZ_plant

Believe it or not I've never taken care of a house plant before. When I was living with my wife we had a couple over the years but they were never taken care of and just died of neglect. I always wanted more in the house but it just never happened. Now with my own place I'm going to make this happen. (and next year I hope to have a back porch garden or some kind).

But I'm starting slow, one easy maintenance plant, make sure I follow though and all goes well.

3. Hmm... Wikipedia says all its parts are poisonous. I guess that's sort of a trick...
...but it's not one I'd encourage the plant to practice. :P

4. Is placing the plant on the left side of the bookcase a statement?
As opposed to placing the plant in the center or right

6. Hmmm...not conciously
of course there is a small clock on the right side so that was probably all there was to it :)

16. Sure, thats what they all say. The plant is a leftwinger; it probably likes plants.
I suspect the plant conspires with other plants to make the Earth more green.

5. Good thinking placing all...
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 06:15 AM by Kutjara
...the intellectual books so casually on the shelf just below the plant, so they just "happen" to show up in the photo. Go on, confess: that's normally where you keep your collection of skin mags and car part catalogs, right?

7. lol
I thought of that after I took the photo...that the titles that showed up seemed a bit like I was trying to show off. But honestly that is just were I happened to put those 'classics' so in a way yes I guess it is showing off because I conciously choose to put those titles in my living room book shelf in a prominent location for visitors to see.

The bookshelves in the living room are full of weighty tomes of politics, philosophy, science, and literature. The ones in the bedroom groan under the weight of stuff like "The World's 101 Best Fart Jokes," and "Reach for the Remote: The Billy Mays Story."

11. And what will you name it?
It sounds like more of a boy plant to me. How about Nestor? Or Cadmus? Ajax?

Name him. You'll be more apt to take care of him then. :)

12. Good idea I wish I knew if it were male or female
I'd go with Penelope if it were female...I'm gonna give that some thought, definitely something from the ancient classics though given where I put it :)

If so, they may just be sleeping!
