Advice needed on electrical heaters
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 10:31 AM by brentspeak
This year, for the first time, my apartment landlord is having me pay for my own heating. This is an oil-based system, and I want to do as much as possible not to rely on my thermostat. What good electrical heaters are available?

2. Try the Home Improvement forum with this question.
I remember a thread from last winter (a carryover from the winter before) about these heaters.

Those people who tried them had nothing but wonderful things to say. I'm thinking about buying one or two myself.

4. They were discussed a couple times...
I think in the "Frugal and Energy Efficient Living" (or something like that) group, maybe also in the economic activism group, whose name I don't have a clue about without going to the lobby. Some people really liked them and said they were quite efficient.

3. I lived in a 3 bedroom house and used 295 gallons of oil for the season
I shut off all unused rooms, put up clear plastic shower curtains (command adhesive hooks are great...) between rooms with no doors.

I invested in sealed oil-filled radiator-style heaters - one for my room and one for the living room. I kept them on low (500watts) all the time. (And the cats couldn't knock them over.) I used a heated mattress pad I got onsale at Kohls and wore lots of layers...

Good luck. I decided not to invest in anything permanent as I was renting.
