Seriously, isn't that like looking at the Bush administration for the last 7 years and the only thing that pisses you off is that you find out that Bush's cowboy boots aren't made in Texas, but in New York City? Or getting all chuffed at WalMart solely because you can't get your Crest to squeeze out of the tube onto your toothbrush like it shows on the package?

:eyes:

1. ...
could you please start some kind of texting service so I don't miss these? I'm too lazy to come here and search for your old posts. Just take my phone number or e-mail and send to me directly.

4. What I need to do is remember to add these things to my journal
I forget about the journal for three or four weeks at a time, then remember for like a day or two, then forget again.

2. I just thought it was sad for the real little girl who sang it because
apparently she wasn't cute enough.

6. Certainly not. The thing that has me pissed off
is that a marathon 'Risk' tournament between you and DS1 for world domination does not qualify as an Olympic event, and isn't deemed worthy of the kind of fuss generated at this year's opening ceremonies.

I mean, who makes these decisions, really?

7. It's something people don't have to think too much about. Lip-syncing = a lie. Lies = bad.
If you get into the socio-political aspect, people get scared and/or lazy and shut up.

9. I think it had more to do with the reason why she was lip-syncing.
The girl who really sang it wasn't "cute" enough.

11. Yeah, that is pretty ridiculous.

How old is she? I bet she was adorable.

Still, it's an easy source of outrage. It still doesn't require a whole lot of thought or debate.

And its not like China is the only place it would happen - I can easily see it happening in the good ol' U.S. of A. :eyes:

15. I know we are by far not perfect, but I don't see us replacing
a little girl because she isn't cute enough. Maybe I am naive though.

17. I think maybe a little
I doubt if anyone here would be quite so blunt about it but I can see it. Look at the singers in this country who are famous - how you look has nothing to do with how you sing but the vast majority of them are considered attractive. Particularly women. Why is that? Is it because ugly people can't sing? No, it's because ugly singers can't get gigs.

18. I definitely agree that it is all about looks in the entertainment
industry. I think what we would have done to begin with is get a kid we find "cute" enough to sing instead of replacing a kid.

21. Of course not - we would have sought out "cute" first, and created the voice in the editing room.
We wouldn't even have the integrity to first get someone who can sing well. Why should we? We don't for American Idol or any of our pop stars.

No, our "talent scouting" would have consisted of looking for cute, all-American perfect little girl child. After we found her, we would have the engineers make her sing.

23. I do like some of the American Idols, but I do think we would have
found the cutest little girl who could sing. We wouldn't have looked for voice first. Looks would come first for sure.

But I just feel so bad for the little 7 year old girl who I guess was basically told she wasn't cute enough. I also heard that they banned their bald and smelly cab drivers from driving their cabs during the Olympics.

25. Which isn't a far cry from what happened to the homeless in Atlanta
Everyone tries to put on a good face for the Olympics, and it's usually at someone else's expense.

27. Yet another part of the Olympics that's just a fucking sham.
Whatever city I live in, I would lobby and fight tooth and nail to ensure that the Olympics never be held in it.

All it is is a testosterone/steroid based form of soft war and international penis waving at each other.

Of all the things for you to be pissed off about, you're pissed off about people being pissed off about a lip-syncher?

20. No, I'm pissed that of all the Olympics, built on an Olympus of sham, scam, and fakery,
Edited on Tue Aug-12-08 03:41 PM by Rabrrrrrr
throughout and throughout, that it's a lip-synched bit of fakery in the opening song - a song, for fuck's sake, not even an actual sports part of the Olympics - that has people pissed off.

Hence my analogies.

I want my toothpaste on the brush EXACTLY how it looks in the ads. If you can't understand the importance of this, you probably have cavities. So there.
