...She runs NYC's design-review agency, so when David's bike-rack design came up for discussion, she chaired the meeting. She described David to me as "sweet, quirky, very low-key and really knowledgeable." He was introduced at the meeting as simply "a musician and cyclist." What's funny is, after the meeting ended, a woman who works for my wife asked her, "Who was that David guy? He seemed really weird." My wife said: "Uh, hello? That's David Byrne? Talking Heads?" Turns out this woman is a HUGE T-Heads fan from way back, and had no idea she'd just had a meeting with one of her idols.

I had the pleasure of meeting David backstage at a "Stop Making Sense" show in '84, and a couple years later in L.A. at his book-signing. He's one of my heroes, for sure.
