I have a diet cola monkey on my back
I have been drinking an average of four 20-0z bottles of diet cola per day. Sometimes I can down 6 or more. Coke Zero is my first choice. By any kind will do: Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, even Diet Faygo Cola or that house brand they sell at Meijer.

I'm getting a little worried about this addiction. I know it's not like I am hooked on crack or meth. But this can't be good for me.

Some back story here: I have been on a serious weight-loss program for the past year and have dropped 80 pounds. I suspect the diet cola has taken th place fatty food used to occupy in my life.

Any advice?

1. switch to water?

Diet pop isn't the best thing in the world for you probably, but it beats most of the other choices. Regular cola with the high fructose corn syrup is dreadful for you, juices are high in calories usually and expensive, stuff like "smart water" or Gatorade is deceptively high in calories, even their new watered down "G2" stuff (which now only has the calories of Coca-Cola). Iced tea might be a bit better for you, if you can bear to drink it unsweetened, but if you put Equal or something in it, you're right back to the same problem as diet cola.

maybe try going to water every other time? instead of grabbing another 20-ounce of pop, refill the bottle with cold filtered water or spring water -- at my office, we switched the water cooler from "drinking water" to "spring water" and the taste is just vastly superior, especially if it's very cold.

P.S. Congrats on the weight loss... I'm faced with the need to do that myself, so I'm drinking more diet pop... Mountain Dew Code Red is my drug of choice.

3. I drink LOTS of water, too
I have been drinking 40 oz. of water or more as part of my weight-loss plan. But I still feel the "need" for the diet cola.

And yes, I am in the restroom a lot every day.

2. Aspartame is an anti-inflammatory (except on the web, lol)
it's very inflammatory in web discussions.

Wish I could help, but I have the same monkey on my back. I'm convinced that the ridiculous quantities of caffeine that the Diet Coke addiction leads to is the most harmful aspect.

4. I would start drinking a little less each day. That is
a whole lot of cola a day. Probably wouldn't hurt to throw in a little more water. I drink about 5 bottles of water a day and let myself have one caffeinated drink a day.

5. Me too - I just went to water though
If you drink water as much as you drink diet cola, you feel much better
