Any Kia Sedona owners out there???
Yes, MrsFreepe...er Grumpy is looking to (finally) trade in the YukonXL (that we bought off my dad to save him from debtor's prison and also because MrG just loved them) and I am looking for "decent" gas mileage, seating for 5 or more, and not too rough on my knees (i.e. the ins and outs thing). I am also at a major freaking loss. We rented the Sedona out in CA and I loved the rear storage (twice that of the Caravan we had in the early 2000's) and it road well on the long drive from Vegas to LA. But... anyone else own a car like that that they love? Or hear some really horrible about the Sedona?

1. I have a good friend who has a Sedona.
She bought it when they had their most recent baby. She loves it. I haven't ridden in it, but it seems pretty comfy.

I do, however, really like my Mazdaspeed3. Don't think that it's what you're looking for, though. You might consider (for 5 folks, storage and mileage) one of the hot hatchbacks out there. Mazda 3, the Subaru, the Toyota Matrix are all fine choices.

2. Thanks. I'll look into those.

I am totally going against "the family" by shopping foreign, but we don't get a discount anymore so I'm getting what I want instead of attempting to save a job that isn't there anymore.

The storage in the back of the Sedona was beyond belief for a minivan.

5. I have a Toyota Matrix that i love

It's great for storage and gets ~33mpg on the highway. The back seats fold down so you can put big stuff in there if you need to (or dogs - that's what i do, haha). It's a great little car.

:hi:

6. How many does it seat?
I mean, I don't do the whole carpool thing anymore, but sometimes it is more than just WB, BG and I. We're driving to Disney in Florida with the Grandpeople (2) and I want them to be comfy-ish.

Hey the big board says you're on short time. How exciting.

7. It seats five, but it's not *big*
Edited on Wed Aug-13-08 07:00 PM by SallyMander

If you had three kids in the back (or two kids and a smallish adult) they would be fine, but i wouldn't put three adults back there for a long ride unless they were really friendly. :D

Edit - that sticky totally made my night!!! It's been a fun day anyway because Iza and i picked up our rings. :D

13. The Mazda 3 is supposed to be a very good car and
you can't go wrong with a Toyota or Honda. Subaru's are excellent vehicles but are pricey since they are all wheel drive.

18. My mom has the 3 hatch and loves it.
As I mentioned, I have the Speed3 hatch and love that. The build quality is fantastic. Doesn't feel "cheap" at all. I couldn't think of a 5 seater Honda, short of the Odyssey. The Matrix is based on the Corolla, so you know that will run forever. On top of that, they're really good looking cars.

I know I'll pay for that, but sorry bro, couldn't resist. BTW, I do like the Mazda, and have been considering one to replace my '02 PT Cruiser. :)

Don't know how long I'm holding off on that, though.

4. Thanks.
And, I know I keep saying it but totally awesome storage. Of course, completely "uncool" and I thought I had given up my minivan mama days a few years ago. Perhaps I am skipping directly to elderly minivan driver.

8. Check the latest Consumer Reports, I know in the past
they have had a very bad repair record. I know a couple people that bought them because they have a good warranty but they had lots of problems with getting service and one got his replaced with the Lemon Law.

12. I was doing a google search and that came up on the '06 models,
but then went on to say that the '08 models are ranked 4th in minivans by Motortrend. Thanks for the info. I don't want to end up with another Maytag story.

10. My boyfriend, teh car expert sez....
The Honda Odyssey or Honda Element would both be great choices (especially the latter, if you're looking for awesome storage/versatility). The usual Honda benefits: reliability and good resale value. If price is an issue, a 2005 or 2006 certified pre-owned would probably be a GREAT deal.

His 2 cents. I'm pretty impressed with the Element, and with the Hyundai Santa Fe myself. :hi:

14. Really just looking for under $30,000 because I don't want to
dump a ton of money for just a car, you know? My brother has an Odyssey and I rode in it last month, but didn't really "take a look at it" because I was still in "buy a crossover" mode.

thanks :loveya: How many does your Santa Fe seat?

20. I don't have a Santa Fe, but have looked at them & considered.
I really prefer the ones from a couple of years ago, as they were a little smaller (more like a Subaru Outback, but the current model is pretty much in the "crossover" category), but they seat 5-6 VERY comfortably, plus room for storage. Hyundai's realiability is now very good (I drive an Accent GT, and it's fantastically dependable), but their prices are still well below Honda/Toyota.

And if you check out an Element in person, you'll really be impressed with the storage, and all the configurations. Kinda ugly, but VERY cool vehicle. And good mileage for an SUV-ish ride, too.

15. Test drive the new Town & Country
We have one - the one with the seats that swivel around and the table that goes between them. You can also opt for the seats that all fold flat into the floor. Either way, the back row folds flat, which is ever so much more convenient than the old models where you had to take out the back seats.

What I love about the new T&C is that the windows in the sliding doors go down. And it's a comfortable ride.

17. I had the Caravan and it dropped the tranny at 60,000 miles.
I'm a little wary about them. I know it usually doesn't happen twice, but we've only ever had Chrysler/Dodge vehicles and I feel like being a renegade. James and I were just looking at the new Town and Country.
