Is anyone else disappointed in the Olympic coverage? (Rant)
I was really looking forward to seeing the gymnastics. They don't come on until after 11:00 pm ET, so I have missed nearly all of them, including the women's taking the silver. I love gymnastics... I watched the tryouts, etc.

I am sick of swimming and Michael Phelps. Last night they showed his qualifying trials instead of the men's individual rounds!

Does anyone have an email address that I can use to complain to NBC? Their Olympics site takes forever to load on dial-up. Thanks, everyone who replies.

1. I understand what you are saying, but Michael Phelps
is the big Olympic story this time around. Most people do want to see him, so that is why it is all about him. I stayed up to watch the gymnastics. I was disappointed though.

2. I just taped stuff
I'm a swimming geek, though, so I didn't mind all the MP coverage.

I finally figured out where MSNBC was on the cable, so I can see even more stuff! I would have liked to see more fencing, sculling and canoeing.

But I can't wait for track and field!

4. They did show the men's all-around live, but it didn't end till after midnight Central Time
NBC was actually pretty good about refraining from excessive commercials, unlike the worst Olympics coverage ever in Nagano 1998.

Anyway, it's odd that almost nobody is sticking landings. Have the Chinese laid out extra bouncy mats or something?

13. On the landings...
I wondered that too. Maybe it's because of the new scoring system that it isn't such a big deal as it once was.

I think it's only .1 of a point deduction now --- ? Someone will know! :hi:

15. I think a small hop on the landing has always been a tenth deduction.
I do wish they would go back to the regular scoring. I at least somewhat understood it.

21. Yeah, it's so nice that they delay it for the west coast
so that we can stay up well past midnight just like the east coasters. :sarcasm: So asinine.

5. I've never enjoyed US coverage
I've watched it in the past, but it's so full of fluff and bullshit it's barely tolerable.

22. NBC thinks that women like the fluff and bullshit
It's like the NBC execs walked right out of the show, Mad Men.

6. see, i'm the opposite
swimming is the only olympic sport that i actually really care about. if i'm not mistaken they changed the format for swimming this year because of the amount of viewers who take an interest in it.

i'm not sure if you have any of the extra channels covering the olympics, but usually while the swimming is on they are covering something else going on at the same time.

17. In addition to NBC, MSNBC, USA, and CNBC coverage
Cox Cable has an all soccer channel and an all basketball channel.

I think anyone looking for something besides volleyball, gymnastics, and swimming/diving can find it without too much effort.

14. I don't think gymnastics was on the alternate channels, though.
USA had mostly boxing, and I did watch some other events on MSNBC. Tonight is the last night for gymnastics.

7. I'm watching more of the Canadian broadcast on cable
Interesting (being an old fart myself) to see a 50-year-old woman win a fencing match (got eliminated in a later round), or a 57-ish woman compete in trap shooting.

They show some of the swimming, of course, but other events too, including the less-commercial ones. Like rowing (I think that's the dominant mode of transportation in Canada).

:hi:

10. They are trying to cover two live venues simultaneously
Both of which start at 10:00 PM or later ET.

I think the ratings dictate what they cover and for gymnastics and swimming it goes pretty much in this order:

1. Women's team gymnastics
2. Gold medal swimming
3. Men's team gymnastics
4. Women's individual gymnastics
5. Other swimming
6. Men's individual gymnastics

On a side note, I have loved both the coverage on USA and MSNBC and the internet coverage.

I enjoy the sports we never see here like water polo, field hockey, and team handball.

If they were preempting the womens finals for USA vs Angola Basketball, then you'd have a claim.

28. There is no such thing as too much Mens Swimming
I just sit there with a glazed look, admiring the guys, wishing I were back in college chasing swimmers......

But enough about my fantasy life - I have to say the Men's Freestyle Medley was one of the most exciting sporting events I've seen in years!!!
