Godddamn! David Bowie is a genius!
Listening to a 1976 show from Wolfgang's Vault - damn he was good live! I don't think I've heard a bad Bowie concert!

And every album he did until 1980....

And did you know he wrote My Way?

1. The Frank Sinatra "My Way"?
woah, I did not know that. I bet he's a gazillionaire just from that alone.

4. Oops, my bad - He tried to write the English lyrics. Anka beat him to it.
"When David Bowie was asked to write English lyrics to "Comme d'habitude" in 1968, the song he came up with was "Even a Fool Learns to Love." However, Paul Anka bought the rights to the original French version, and Bowie's version was never released. "Life on Mars?" was Bowie's riposte to losing out on a fortune; it has similar chords to "My Way.""

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Way_(song)

Bowie later re-purposed the song as "Life on Mars"

Listen to them side by side sometime.

2. He's always had great, and very underrated,
bands and is incredibly charismatic. David Bowie and Bryan Ferry have been cooler longer than anyone since Louis Armstrong.

5. "Reality" is excellent.
That's a fairly recent CD.
"This is Not America" is great, written with Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays for the movie "The Falcon and the Snowman".

Or as my offspring said, "Sting is coasting. David Bowie isn't".

7. Did you know that he was...
the Sovereign of the Guild of Calamitous Intent?
