8. I love Captain Kangaroo.
A friend used to deliver food from a few restaurants in NYC and Captain K ordered frequently from one place... our friend says he is a cool, nice man who was a great tipper.

15. I loved to make all the projects with shoe boxes and tape
I always asked for Bactine and Scotch Tape in my Easter baskets (they were sponsors)and I had to have construction paper. I loved Mr. Moose, Bunny Rabbit, Grandfather Clock, Dancing Bear, Bebe (the sheep dog)and Tom Terrific. My favorite story was Stone Soup.

24. I fondly remember Captain Kangaroo from my childhood
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 06:28 PM by MikeH
I liked his easy, friendly manner, and also the entertainment provided by his show.

I like his interactions with Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose, Grandfather Clock, and others. I liked seeing how Bunny Rabbit would trick the Captain into getting carrots from him (and the crunching sound of carrots after the Captain realized he had been tricked). And I liked Mr. Moose's knock-knock jokes, and how Mr. Moose would trick the Captain into having ping-pong balls dropped on him.

I remember some of the cartoon shows like Tom Terrific, with Mighty Manfred the Wonder Dog. I remember not getting the humor when my parents pointed out to me that Mighty Manfred was a dumb dog; Manfred would by accident say something that was just the answer to something Tom needed to know, and Tom would consider him to be brilliant and noble.

I remember some of the songs that were sung on the show. During one of my Sierra Club hikes several years ago, one of my fellow hikers said to me that she was being reminded of the song "We're following the leader, the leader, the leader, we're following the leader, wherever he may go", which I remembered was one of the songs I sometimes heard on Captain Kangaroo.

I remember being laughed at in one of the later grades in grade school when I mentioned Captain Kangaroo in class. I am now somewhat embarrassed to remember how old I was when I was still watching Captain Kangaroo (on days when I did not have to go to school) and similar shows, and that I would get very upset if for some reason I was not able to watch a particular show, or if something was wrong with the TV or the reception.
