Ok all you DU prudes and reactionaries (womens beach volleyball)
Did you catch the interview on NPR with the 3 time olympic beach volleyball player? She said they have the option to wear the one-piece, but no one wants to because it's not comfortable to play in. She said it's too restrictive and sand gets trapped in there.

My post is somewhat tongue-in-cheek but if you've been paying attention, there have been some seriously ridiculous threads RE beach volleyball. I think the biggest critics haven't been on a beach anywhere in the world since the 1920s.

1. If scratchy wool one pieces with legs and sleeves were good enough for grandma...
:sarcasm:

11. I had a wool bathing suit when I was a kid.
I guess you'd call it a 'brief'.
Had an attached belt with a metal buckle.
Itchy as hell.
Why did they ever make them out of wool?

2. I hate women's beach volleyball
Only because it's boring and on all the time, instead of showing more interesting sports.

4. It's a Budweiser commercial audition, you're lucky to get them to wear anything at all.

5. I think it's a silly argument
Hello? It's Beach volleyball, not igloo volleyball, ergo you're going to wear a bathing suit. And I can well imagine that a two piece is better than a maillot for the sand factor.

There are better arguments to make about situations where women wear skimpy outfits vs where men don't. Hooters' Girls, anyone? No body needs to wear hotpants to wait tables in.

6. Well, the men don't wear speedos.
The men wear loose tanks and shorts. I think that's a big part of the argument. I don't think the people complaining are prudes and reactionaries. I just think beach volleyball is a stupid sport that should never have been in the Olympics in the first place. I'm so sick of it. Every single time I turn on the Olympics it's on. And they're getting rid of softball on top of it. It's ridiculous.

7. Bingo
I don't care what they wear or if they wear anything. I just think it's a stupid "sport". Which is why I prefer the winter olympics because I find a lot of the summer sports stupid. I mean, water polo? :wtf:

9. At least in Water Polo you have to learn to do two things at once
swimming AND playing the sport itself.

12. It's a great sport...
A great combination of strategy and athleticism. They do, however, wear WAY too much.
