how far is la Guardia from JFK airport? I have tickets
to London from JFK, but I can't get a decently priced flight out of tallahasee to JFK. Would it be feasible to fly into la guardia and then transfer to JFK? Or fly into Newark? for some reason la guardia is cheaper. help please?

1. the distance between the two is not worth the cost of a plane ticket

fly into philly then to jfk, that's what I did when I flew to London from Raleigh (RDU -> PHILLY -> JFK -> GATWICK)

2. Probably $25 ride on a SuperShuttle, LGA to JFK
About 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. Newark's a lot farther away.

3. Delta flys out of Tally
Try going into Cincy on Delta and see if you can get into JFK from there. It might work.

4. Depening on time of day + traffic

Laguardia is anywhere from a 20 minute (no traffic) to a 2 hour (pretty heavy traffic) cab ride to JFK.

Laguardia is on the north coast of the Island; JFK is almost directly south on the south coast. Cab shouldn't be more than $25-$30.

I also agree with previous poster: Newark is much farther away, and also stands the chance for much heavier traffic, since you have to make the river crossing and, since the driver will probably take the southern route, you'd have to contend with the atrocious Staten Island expressway and the equally unbearable Belt Parkway.

The ride is definitely easier from Laguardia.

5. Cab it - it's not that big of a deal.
My hubby and I are flying to Rome this summer. We go from Florida to one of the NY airports, transfer to the other, then fly to Rome... same way back.

If the cabbies don't give you a heartattack, you'll be fine. It's probably an hour tops.

7. Not much flies direct from Tallahassee...
to around here. Lots of bargains from Orlando, Jacksonville, West Palm beach, Tampa... I've flown Continental to WPB and Tampa for well under $150 round trip out of Newark. And Continental, Virgin, BA, and at least one or two others fly to London from Newark.

But it's a long ride to Jacksonville and cheap tickets.

Anyway, assuming you're stuck with nonrefundable tix out of JFK, go for LaGuardia if you're saving real bucks. There's a regular shuttle service that costs about $25 bucks each between the two. A cab isn't that much if there's several of you, and could be ultimately cheaper. I think there's a bus, too.

Give yourself plenty of time. London flights tend to be in the evening, so you should be OK. Since you didn't buy a through ticket from Tallahasse to London, if your flight up here is seriously delayed or cancelled you're seriously screwed unless the airline has pity and plenty of empty seats.

Figure up to two hours to get to the gate, get your bags and travel to JFK. You want to get to JFK at least two hours before flight time. So, your flight to LGA should be scheduled to land at least 4 hours before your London flight leaves. That should be more than enough time if everything works reasonably well.

"If..." Do not discount Murphy's Law.

Delays at LaGuardia can be extreme, although it's not as bad as it was, and some people fly in the night before and get a room to make sure they make their connections.

A big wreck or emergency pothole crew on the Van Wyck would be a killer unless the driver knows the back roads.
