If you could bring a dead rock star back to life
If you could bring a dead rock star back to life for one gig, who would it be?

John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis, Kurt Cobain, Buddy Holly, Freddie Mercury? Or someone else?

This Day in Music are carrying out a world-wide survey to see which dead rock stars people would want to see again - for one night only!

Who would you pick? You can see a full list and vote on

4. I'd like to bring John & George back for a Beatles concert.
Obviously, I never got to see them live.

But in the context of this "Deadapalooza" thing, let's bring all of 'em back. Elvis, Jimi, Kurt, Morrison, Janis, Bon Scott, Bonham, Jerry and all of the Dead keyboardists, etc. Make it a 3 day "Deadstock" festival.

7. Question: would this rock star still be in a coffin? Cause that sounds kinda horrific.
Can you imagine going to Elvis's shrine and hearing a muffled voice from under the ground screaming "Let me out!"

22. GG Allin
I wouldn't pick Lennon because he'd waste the opportunity to do some kind of Yoko-fied bullshit. Maybe if it was with the other Beatles, but I suspect he'd be a douche about it and insist on Plastic Ono band.

Hendrix and Elvis are out because from what I've seen, they were basically death warmed over for their last few performances anyway. One could claim that about GG I suppose, but impending mortality was kind of part of his entire act, so it enhances the performance. With the others it just makes them forget parts of songs and make mistakes.

Cobain and Holly would be good choices because they died near their peaks, but I'm not a big fan of either.

Mercury, not interested.

41. Danny Gatton or D Boon.
Granted, Gatton didn't play what many people would call "rock", but he was an incredible guitarist.

Also, D Boon isn't what most people would call a "star", but his work with The Minutemen really changed many approaches to the way music is played.

Both are underrated geniuses.
