I'll go first.

I am a sucker for a romantic comedy movies. I will pick them over action movies.

1. I used to hate Shakespeare's writing until about fifteen years ago.
I used to think he was boring. Turns out, the people I saw performing the plays were doing it all wrong. Kenneth Branagh really succeeded in bringing Shakespeare to people who think it is, in Branagh's words "not for them."

I am an official Shakespeare fanatic now...

33. So what makes Shakespeare great?
does he have a great wit? compelling story teller? Like the rest of the masses, I just don't get his appeal.

42. Great wit? Yes. Compelling storyteller? Yes. If you don't get his appeal,
then the performances you have seen (if any) have been BAD performances. If it's done right, Shakespeare can be transformative. And don't expect to "get" Shakespeare by reading the text of the plays. They were never intended to be read. They were written to be performed and listened to.

Don't blame yourself; lots of people have only been exposed to "bad" Shakespeare.

Edited on Mon Sep-01-08 06:32 PM by lizziegrace
And until the carburetor was changed, poured gas into it to start the car. I always changed my own oil and plugs too.

(This was in college in the late 70's.)

10. I'm deaf
Not totally, but none in one ear, and most in the other.

My life's a constant adventure because of it. The things I hear are hilarious compared to what's actually said.

Oh, and most people don't notice despite my constant, "What?s" and my twisting my head to aim my one good ear at the person speaking to me. I rely a lot on lip reading, and if the person has an accent (aside from Boston) I can't communicate.

56. Speaking only from my own experience.
More often than not the dishes placed in the diswasher had already been sufficiently washed by hand.

I suspect this to be the case often enough for it not to be seen as an anamoly.

These were the 70' and early 80's, and Consumption was king. :(

And clear whatever came out of it without letting it stop. 3 monkey dishes to a handful at 125 degrees. If the machine stopped, you went back to filling bus stations and icing the bar. Scrubland.

Before that, I had to either wash or dry every dinner dish by hand before I could set a foot outside and make Hide-N-Seek history

Dear Wonderful Skittles, should I ever use such a machine for no reason, you know what you must do.

When I got out of that race car, I told the nice young man driving, "Holy Shit! That was almost better than SEX, and I've had some damn GOOD sex in my life!"

Poor kid was so embarrassed, he didn't know what to say back. Guess he hadn't heard that revelation from many 30-something women before me.

I like to watch tapes of autopsies, I find it all very fascinating. My dream was to become a full fledged funeral director but I didn't manage to get into school so I never got licensed. I worked in 2 funeral homes though and gained a lot of experience. I have such compassion for bereaved families and find it an honourable job to look after the deceased. I started too late in life I guess. Maybe next time around

My dad was retired military, and talked me into it.

I was especially distressed at the insistence about where I placed my socks and underwear, for God's sakes. And that we were not allowed to read or watch news.

Not to mention the sexism was rampant in that unit. They got tapped to serve in the first Gulf War, and I was plenty glad I was long gone.
