Poll question: Best Mexican Inspired Fast Food Chain?
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 05:48 PM by OmahaBlueDog
Some of these are regional, so if you grew up in the East, you've probably never seen Del Taco.

8. Remember Taco Cabana before they went corporate?
It was REALLY freaking good. Remember when the Super Tex Mex Plate was TWO FULL PLATES? Those were the days. But, that aside, TC is still pretty damn good for fast Tex-Mex.

In San Antonio the original owners of TC have opened a new restaurant with the original TC recipes called Mama Margies, named for the woman who they got the recipes from. I haven't been yet, but I need to get down there and re-live the old days.

2. Taco Cabana
I went there once, and it blows all the others away price and quality wise.

3. Chipotle's
Being as I'm vegetarian, I love that I can get a veggie burrito with black beans and other wonderful fixin's. I don't like their chairs, so I always get it to go. If I show up at 11am, I am in and out in less than two minutes. Do that at your average fast food place and still end up with a meal big enough to save half and have for dinner later!

9. The chains stores can fill your belly...
But honest to God carne guisada or barbacoa on freshly made tortillas from a local Mexican bakery
will fill your soul! Support your local hole in the wall!:9

11. For workday lunch
the chains are what's available such that I don't have to drive half my lunch hour just to get to and from the better places.

However, when I'm on my time, it's Pico's Mex-Mex

10. I always liked Taco Time when I lived in the Northwest
The little cinnamon & sugar piecrust-like things they sold at Taco Time were FAR better than the thing (which appears to be a Cheeto they dunked in cinnamon instead of fake cheese) Taco Bell sells.

13. Hadn't been to a Taco Cabana in about 5 years
Then ate some last week. I've had Taco Bell that was better, they've definitely gone downhill since the last time. Of course I have 10 little Mexican joints within about a mile of my house, so I'm jaded.
