eBay has gone to shit
Everything is "Buy it Now", "Buy it Now". The search parameters are such that a bunch of useless crap comes up that has nothing to do with my search, like DVDs, socks and other crap. Saw a post on here how eBay was changing, but this seems like it was just overnight.

1. Well, I just put up a fuzzy winter boot for sale on eBay
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 09:00 PM by HawkeyeX
And eBay was bitching at me about my high shipping prices (Ugg boots ships for around $16) - but since we got it for free, I decided to forego the shipping and sell it for about $110 - retail value is $300.

That's going to be the last time I sell anything on eBay until it goes back to 1998, when everything was much easier.

Meg Whitman can go bite me.

2. Paypal is holding my funds until my buyers give positive feedback.

I'm selling old textbooks, not faberge eggs. :wtf: I'd kind of like that money, so I can turn around and use it to buy my own textbooks.

7. Try these for selling textbooks.
http://www.abebooks.com
http://www.alibris.com
http://www.textbookx.com

I've used all three and I have only good things to say about the experience.

16. Yep! I had to ship the damn things out-of-pocket!
Edited on Mon Sep-08-08 12:36 AM by LeftyMom
Which, since one was going overseas and another UPS, was not cheap.

I sure won't be doing that again!

It's still frequently the cheapest place to buy books, and I've never had a problem with that, but I'll be selling mine elsewhere in the future. I've had pretty good luck with Craigslist.

19. I did not know that
Sometimes I don't give feedback for some time, because I want to know how well an item works, particularly with used electronics - I've had too many items that didn't last a week. I didn't know I was holding up someone's funds. That sucks.

For books, CD's and the like, I prefer Amazon. No last minute sniping, charges all upfront.

4. Ebay was great at one time..Now, you type in an Item and...
..up pops 24,000 entries...starting at .01 (Fuck...Come On..One Cent ??)

The Shit-hole has turned into a "China Outlet Store"

Plus...Rips-offs are as common as Flies on Dog-Crap.

And come out with eBay Classic in a year or two. Bastards probably would pull such a tactic.

9. The penny people are trying to get around the final value fees.
Edited on Sun Sep-07-08 10:01 PM by LeftyMom
They'll have over-inflated shipping to make up for it.

I refuse to buy from anybody who doesn't have sensible, transparent shipping charges.

5. Ebay has been shit for a few years now.
I quit going there when it started changing.

I go to Amazon now. It's much easier to buy stuff there.

10. There's always iOffer
iOffer

"This is not an auction. It's better! No bids, reserve pricing, auction end times, and last minute sniping. iOffer is a trading community that allows you to buy, sell and trade - just like you would in real life - by negotiating."

11. Ebay is trash.
I still buy sometimes, if I can find what I want. However, it's just too much of a hassle to sell there. I sell all of my old books on Amazon.com. The fees are higher, but the hassle is much lower.

14. Also, eBay's obscuring of other bidder's IDs has taken any strategy out of one's bidding.
Say you collect....orange-crate labels, for example. And say a very rare label running on "The Bay" for just a few bucks, and the high bidder is X-X-X. But since you've been following the final-bidding action on orange-crate labels for months, you know that X-X-X, for some crazy reason, bids early and puts down massively high bids, in some cases, more than $1,000. That's not an auction I want to waste my time with.

On the old eBay, knowing another bidder's ID would allow you to look at the auctions that individual participated in, what the results were, and what time (before the auction's close) other bidders with similar interests would bid down the stretch, etc.

That "gamesmanship" aspect of eBay is now history. Every bid on every lot is a blind one -- you don't know whom you're facing, or what their history is. (EBay does provide a brief sketch of a bidder's recent actions, but only in the vaguest, most worthless way).

17. I totally agree.
Although as a seller I knew that sometimes my bidders would just drop out when a bidder showed up who was known to pay any price no matter how high to win. That would disappoint me sometimes.

As a buyer, the same scenario makes the auction process less appealing, as you say.

20. And that last minute sniping crap sucks swamp water
I can't think of the number of times I've put in a bid, and seen it stand for days, only to have someone swoop in at the last possible moment with seconds - literally - left and grab it. People like that ruin the whole process for the average bidder.

I've refused to participate ever since some dickhead sniped a Selmer Mark VI alto from me in the last second of bidding. Fuckin' asshole.

into a freaking endless look. I've emailed the guy but he won't give me his address so I am at a loss now. I am so used to just getting something and hitting "pay" and going through paypal and boom you're done.
