Help me out Lounge: iPhone: pick? or pan?
My wife and I are going out of the country for 3 weeks and need a phone that will work internationally plus send/receive email, etc.
I know nothing about this stuff and generally don't want to know either (obviously I can use the intertubes and The Google). I leave
phones to the kids, but now I am confronted with the task of getting just the right piece of gear for our trip abroad. What should I get?

BTW My threads always sink like a stone. I'm hoping for at least three responses so at least I can make a mal-informed decision soon.

Thanks in advance.

1. I've had mine for a couple of weeks and totally love it,
but can't begin to comment on its use outside of the U.S. I know AT&T always markets its user-friendliness and accessibility worldwide, but have no idea as far as how roaming charges and the like compare with the other wireless carriers. Sorry I can't offer more...

2. CallMeWesley just got a new one
and he lives in Europe. If he doesn't see this thread, maybe you could send him a PM.

3. I can't comment on an iPhone since I don't have one, but
DH & I do have AT&T. Our phones worked just fine in Cambodia, even in fairly small communities. Granted, the roaming charges were $5 per minute, but it was good to have the coverage, just in case.

4. my sister just went to South Africa
and it seems to me her phone worked fine, but the roaming charges were fairly high. As long as you aren't going somewhere totally remote, I don't see why it would be a problem. I would just talk to the AT&T people to find out what calling plan makes sense.
