Help! The engagement ring went on and now it will not come off!
I have tried soap, oil, lotion, even astroglide! It will not come off to be seized. It fits fine where it is but won't come above the knuckle. And the kicker is that it slide right on without a hitch!

7. He gave it to me a week ago.
Doctor said it is not causing any problems with circulation. But if I have the dang ring cut off, it will cost us to have it fixed. If I an get it off without damage it won't cost to get it sized.

9. Maybe you're better hydrated now than when you put it on.

2. You can try icing the finger down
that might help, as would warming up the ring (although I don't have an immediate idea how to best do that).

10. Well E How To offers the following
Things You’ll Need:
Hand lotion, dishwashing liquid or olive oil
Step1 Soak your hand in ice-cold water if it is swollen. Wait 5 to 10 minutes for the swelling to recede.
Step2 Apply lubricant around the ring and up the length of your finger. Hand lotion, dishwashing liquid or olive oil will do the trick.
Step3 Twist the ring as you slowly work it up and over the knuckle. You may need to apply some force to get it over the first knuckle. Make sure to twist, not tug.
Step4 If the ring still won't budge, visit a doctor to have it removed.

8. When I was growing up, neither of my parents could remove their rings because they both...

had fatter fingers after many years of marriage than when they got married. One time my mom, grandma, brother, and I went to Epcot center and disney. At the end of the day mom phoned up dad and said that she'd found a way to get the ring off. He asked how, and she said that when you walk twice around epcot center it comes off. It had been summer and I think the heat and exertion dehydrated her enough that her fingers got skinnier. Maybe you should spend too much time in a sauna but with friend supervising from outside the door. If it's only been a week, there shouldn't be much difference from when you put it on.

So although this sounds like terrible advice: get dehydrated a little bit.

12. Hum, I wonder if a heat pad would help.
Wrap my hand in it and see if that would help. I am at the point to tr almost anything.

18. Not heating pad
Heating pad will make the finger swell a bit. Ice brings it down.
As for the walk around Disneyland in the heat, that worked because the person got dehydrated. A heating pad will not dehydrate your finger.
If you want to get dehydrated and don't have access to a sauna, try a diuretic, like Midol.

15. I was about to suggest the same technique
Only use dental floss. An ER doc taught me this using surgical suture. Dental floss would work as well - use a curved tapestry needle to get it under the ring without piercing your hand.

14. Preparation H might work. It shrinks hemorrhoids after all.
Your finger might be a little inflamed around the joint. and the Prep H just might do it.

17. Spray Windex around the ring
Should slide right off. I've had that happen and it worked like a charm.

19. I swear by dishwashing liquid
it's very slippery. Also the struggling has probably made it swell up a bit more, so ice a bit and then put on the Palmolive.

21. Try this.
You need some sewing thread, topstitch thread is best, don't get anything too fine but it needs a very smooth finish.

Start at the base of your finger and wrap it TIGHTLY around your finger.

THIS WILL HURT!!!!!

Be very neat and cover the finger up under and a little past the ring--don't leave any skin showing at all. The tip of your finger will change colors. You should be able to slip the ring over the thread this way. You may need to go almost up to the middle joint before it will move.

I had the very same thing happen to me years ago, ended up going to the ER, and this is what they did. It hurt like the dickens, but the ring came off.

I should have taken it as an omen--the relationship didn't last.

Good luck!

25. Hold your hand and arm up over your head.
This will allow the blood to drain away, and perhaps might give that ring some wiggle room.

It's a bonus that if you do this, you won't bleed as much or as quickly if you have to cut your finger off.
