Do you get into political debates on non-political forums/groups that you belong to?
I was just curious... I'm a semi-regular member of another forum that is dedicated to a non-political topic, and of course the "General Topics" sub-board is completely dominated by "who are you voting for?" flamewars right now. This particular site seems to be pretty equally divided between Obama and McCain when you look at how people are voting in the polls, but most of the people actually posting their opinions are the liberals. The few Republicans that spoke up say that they feel too bullied to really take part. :eyes: Like it's our fault they can't articulate any good reasons for voting McCain.

Anyhow... is anyone besides me making enemies for life on their favorite book/knitting/cooking etc. discussion groups? :D

2. My favorites are the self-described "sensible centrist" posters
who sincerely believe that Obama could be a closet Black Panther or something... he's just hiding his true radical-ness behind a veneer of moderation until after the election. People, you're Republicans... just admit it.

5. Not as much as a few years ago
Many sports sites have political forums. They are dominated by right wingers. The level of analysis is generally pathetic.

For example, a few days ago in a major political thread on a college football site, a poster claimed Bill Clinton was only governor of Arkansas for two years before becoming president. On a political site it would have been shot down within 30 seconds. But when I found the thread it had taken dozens of replies and almost an hour before someone corrected it.

9. One of the stamps I found whilst browsing the stamps...
Said "Proud to be a white, heterosexual, male." I ended up in a stupid, stupid argument over that one, haha.

It amazes me the number of arguments that can break out over throw-away statements.

I had to leave. They are giddy about the poll numbers, and that McCain "leads" on Intrade for the first time

15. Most of the non-political forums I visit have strict "no politics/no religion" rules
which seem to be pretty much honored. Probably a good thing.

Most of them are related to role-playing games.

17. I was part of a parenting message board, but had to leave
because I could not stop talking about politics and getting into arguments. Also, they did not like swearing. At all.
The switch to DU was highly advisable.

Fun as hell. Bunch of college age kids and more than you'd figure Repukes. I like the back and forth and seeing the repukes get shut down all the time. they keep coming bakc though. At least it is not like preaching to the choir like it is here.

Look at all the political threads on this board! http://www.phantasytour.com/phish/boards.cgi
