Wow did I just make a complete fool of myself in front of a total stranger
So I'm walking back to work after picking up my lunch, and there's this woman walking down the sidewalk towards me, and she looks EXACTLY like my old moot court partner (I mean they could have been twins), so I start waving and smiling, and she looks very confused, and I say "Hey Amy, what are you doing here?" and make like to give her a hug, and she backs away and says "Sorry, I'm not Amy."

Maybe it was Amy and she just wanted to avoid me.

3. I almost had a similar experience last week
I saw a woman that I could swear was an ex of mine from 10 years ago - and yes, her name was Amy, too.

However, I kept my distance, and didn't approach her at all. Just felt weird, and was afraid that if I went up to her and said, "Amy!" I'd get the same reaction you did, "I'm not Amy, sorry."

4. I don't feel I'm alive if I go a whole day without making a fool of myself.

5. I almost did that once...
My distance vision was getting bad, and I saw this guy across a courtyard whom I thought I knew from a few years back. So I stretched my arms out, ready to give him a big hug, and walked towards him. But when I was about 10 feet away, I realized it wasn't the person I knew after all...in fact I'd never seen this guy before in my life. So I kept my arms open and walked past him, totally embarrassed.

6. It happens. Don't beat yourself up about it...
I've mistaken strangers for people I used to know. You shrug, you move on. And if it was Amy, she was being polite enough to let you down easy.
