I think I have a man-crush on Bear Grylls.
Inspired by Bear Grylls, I once hiked a mile back into some mountains, built my own shelter, my own fire using a flint and tinder, gathered edible plants, made a primitive spear, fished for minnows using my shirt and a willow bough, and spent the night there.

I think we need more Democrats like me.... nutty out of there mind!

2. South Dakota? Awesome.
Central Wyoming has some gorgeous badlands that almost nobody knows about. It's the entire basin that lies before the Wind River Range. When I go there, it's like going home, some place I'm supposed to be.

What do you do in the Badlands? Hike, camp, that sort of thing?

3. Yes, 2 nights camping a few miles off the road
I stopped at the SD Badlands a month ago on my way home from Yellowstone and the Tetons and had a great time but I was with a bunch of people and couldn't hike. I'm going back with my son and brother, to more or less wander around with compass and map.

5. I prefer Les Stroud
He really IS all by himself, surviving on his own, lugging his own filming equipment, actually honest to goodness surviving. And Bear bugs the crap outta me. Les always makes a point of stating when fishing/hunting/etc that he hates to take a life except for survival reasons.

6. I agree Les and his show
are definitely more authentic and interesting.

But I enjoy watching Bear's show too, just not as much.

7. I'm with you, dropkickpa
Also, Grylls repetitions of "British Special Forces" irks me like McCain's POW whining.

10. What's your point, Fighting Donkey?

EDIT: I read your other sniveling, so I think I understand your cryptic and ill-formed post, now.

I neither disparaged McClain's service nor that of Mr. British Special Forces. It's their "Look at ME!" specialness that offends.

Also, there IS NO "British Special Forces". Perhaps he was a Marine Commando, SAS, MI5, or Special Branch.

Do *not* call me out for being disrespectful of military service.

8. Oh, the gloves are off now.
Bear's show isn't about his survival "on his own" - it's about showing you how to do it. And I lost all respect for Les Stroud when he was in Newfoundland with a pack of dogs, and his survival "skills" resorted to him stealing food from the dogs which he said he wouldn't do. Friggin' pussy.

Plus as far as killing - when you breathe, you kill millions of microbes every minute. Murderer.

11. Whatever

Meat is wonderfully yummy, but Bear going out and killing something to eat when there are yummy goodies available at the craft services table bugs the shit out of me. Les only HAD one option for food, unlike Bear. Les shows how his methods REALLY WILL keep a person alive for a week, Bear is just voyeuristic "extreme" tv claptrap "look, I can take a bite out of a raw live fish! ooooo!", barely a step up from fear factor.

12. Let's add, dropkicka
that he goes out of his way to find something grotesque to eat raw.

Clearly playing to the 13 YO crowd. I suppose our suddenly silent antagonist is extremely fond of fart-jokes.
