Football fans- I have a question about American Football rules...
I have been a football fan since I was a kid, and even played tackle football (7th through 9th grade), but I have never completely understood...

1. When can an offensive player block a defender below the waist? All the time?

2. Are their any times when a defensive player cannot hit an offensive player below the waist?

3. Are their slight rule differences in blocking below the waist for high school, college, and NFL football?

Peace,

1. Blocking below the waist from behind is clipping..
15 yd penalty, otherwise I think it is legal. The rules do vary b/t college and pro, but I'd have to wake up Mr. mcctatas to get better answers, and personally, I kinda enjoy my few hours of solitude;)

3. an offensive player can block below the waist in the 'box' of the off/def lines
generally considered 3 yrds on each side of the line of scrimmage and between the taclkes. an exception would be be if a def player is being blocked above the waist, another offensive lineman can't hit him low. #2. there may be some obscure rule i'm not aware of. #3 can't help ya there, coz i'm not up on college and HS rules.
