Why do people passing by on boats insist on waving at you?
Or people on land waving at boats.

I mean really. What is it about being on water that makes everyone so fucking friendly. The only wave you get on the highway is a middle finger salute.

Fuck you

Fuck you, too.

Assholes.

And don't get me started on those nasty ass beer gutted shirtless shitbags how own boats with barbecue grills on the back and insist on cooking and eating tied up to the pier while everyone walks by. Get out on the water, dickface. Do you have an RV at home with flat tires from it being parked in the same spot for 6 years?

1. When people on boats wave,
they're saying "Hey, I'm on a boat, look at me!"

When people on the shore wave, they are saying "Yeah, I see you, fuck off."

At least, that's what I'M saying when I wave at people on boats...

2. As a rule, I only wave back at fellow sailors. People in power boats can suck it

3. You'd never catch a pirate waving. And,
if you waved at a pirate, you're in for both a plunderin' and a pillagin'.

4. It's because they are all drunk.
Seriously. I know a lot of 'boaters'. Boating consists of basically getting shitfaced and motoring/sailing around, waving at people and yapping on the radio.

That and shitting bricks when you find yourself in a storm that's bigger than expected.
I speak from experience here. :scared: Nothing like thinking 'Oh, I guess I die by drowning then. Shit.'

7. My family got friendly on the drive up to the cottage. Even before we were in boats, even
before we were at the cottage. Hit the dirt road off the highway and it was time to wave at everybody. People whose houses we passed, other cars, anyone walking on the road. Strange the rituals we have for vacations.

11. Driving down a dirt/rocky mountain road produces the same effect
The "two finger wave" from the steering wheel is somehow compulsory. It may simply mean "thanks for not hitting me," however.

12. Yep, my dad swears you have to be driving a pickup
to get the wave.
