Hi, everyone
Thank you for prayers and kind words for me and my dad. He had his heart catheterization and angiogram this morning and there was bad news and good news, but more good than bad.
First the bad news--they found one artery that is 80% blocked.
Now the good news--that artery is not one that usually causes heart attacks. So, they've decided to treat it medically rather than surgically. He's being treated with metrpolol (sp?) and 2 low dose aspirin a day, probably for the rest of his life--along with some diet changes and exercise. It could have been a lot worse!
We went to Milwaukee early this morning, and they took him in for the procedure at 7:15 am. He was back in the "Same Day Cardiac Service" by 10:15 am. He had to lie flat on his back until 2 pm, then was observed for another hour. We were home around 4:00. He's not to climb stairs or do any lifting for 48 hours, and rest for 3 days before returning to regular activity. So, I'll stay here and help out through the weekend. He feels fine, if a little tired.
Again, thanks for your prayers and vibes. I've been through these things with enough folks through the years that I know this is great news, and we are truly grateful.
Oh, and driving in Milwaukee wasn't so bad. It helped that my dad was the navigator, so I didn't have to figure out where I was going, I just drove without having to think (I do everything best when I don't have to think!). My mom was in this hospital for her brain tumor surgery, but that was 3 1/2 years ago,and I never drove it--just rode with my dad. He certainly knows the way.
Btw, the nurses in the heart cath lab were amused by our (my dad and my) political discussions. We were watching Palin speaking on TV, and my dad said "Change the channel. I just had anesthesia, so I'm already at risk for puking." I inherited my Democratic leanings!
Have a good weekend, all. I'll be around on and off!
