Goddamned biting flies won't leave me alone!
I HAVE HAVE HAVE to finish staining and painting my deck by Thursday, and these fuckers are biting me everywhere they can - even through my jeans, for Chrissakes!

I hosed myself down in 29% deet - but they don't care. They're out for blood - suggestions?

1. Biting flies?
:scared:

I'm glad we barely have any bugs here.

2. Yeah - the bastards.
Problem is, I don't feel them when they land on me - I only feel them when they bite.

They must die.

5. Hey woman! I've been thinking about you!

Incense - would be worth the try if I didn't live on a farm - too windy here for it to make a difference.

Hope this week goes fast for you, so that you get YOUR house and life back together.

 to little chickie MB too.

:loveya:

6. thank you my friend

I just have to figure out how I am going to keep my house heated this winter :scared:

I heard the heating costs are going to go up 150% from last year and I could barely make it then (and I had another income).

BUT, I know I shall make it through this too. I am woman. Hear me roar.

7. I just called the oil company today.
Because unfortunately for me, I have oil heat.

Apparently I caught a break - this time last month, oil per gallon was $4.29. It's down to a reasonable $3.47 a gallon. :sarcasm:

This winter's gonna be a bitch, sista - but we'll get through it.

9. glad you managed to secure a price that is
so cheap :sarcasm:

I remember when I had oil heat in my old farmhouse and it was .79 a gallon and it still cost a buttload to heat the place. I can't imagine what it would be like now.

I have a steam boiler but it is powered by natural gas. The two additions to the original 1890 house have electric heat but I am going to seal at least one of those rooms off for the winter. I will have to suck up watching Little MB's TV for the winter since the one that will be closed off is the "family room" and I am not unhooking all of the tv, etc., equipment to move it upstairs. We will be a 1 TV family for 5-6 months. Lord help me. I hate The Suite Life of Zack and Cody :puke:

4. I wish I had a good suggestion. DEET is supposedly the best
You are just like me..that sweet blood of yours makes you irresistable...
;-)

Maybe a citronella candle lit will help?

11. Yeah, the deet is what I thought would do it, too.
I'm gonna shoot by the hardware store and see if they have stronger concentrations of it.

That's right, TZ! I forgot that you are witness to the bugs' incessant attacks on me.

God - I hate them. :(

10. Jesus, no.
Not greenheads either (the ones who rip chunks of skin when crabbing/fishing on the bay).

Not sure what kind they are - they look like your basic housefly but the welts all over me prove that they're not. :(

13. They seem to make their appearance from late August
until late September - but in DROVES. They're everywhere.

I don't think you have to worry about them - they just must be yet another facet to living on a farm. Lucky me. :sarcasm:

19. Well, instead of you sitting over there teasing me about it....
you could be more proactive by helping me out here.

It wouldn't be difficult. You can just stand around, smoking a stogie while hosing me down in a perpetual mist of deet while I stain the deck, in the heat, in the sun, on my knees. Just a thought.

25. Would seem to be the obvious thing to do, right?
But it's hard to do when staining a deck.

And there's literally hundreds of them - everywhere. It's unbelievable - and as soon as you swat at them, they come right back. They're relentless. And they're really starting to piss me off.
