What are your top 5 favorite things on TV?
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 09:54 PM by mvd
I'm not limiting it to just shows.

Mine:

Professional sports (football, baseball, hockey, college basketball)
The Simpsons
Young And The Restless
Ghost Hunters (I like the supernatural, and have a big crush on Kris Williams (the younger Kris))
Coverage of election nights that are great for Democrats

1. Hmm
Cheerleading and gymnastics
Supernatural stuff (Gh and GHI, X-Files)
Sci-Fi stuff (Eureka, Star trek of all flavors, etc)
Political stuff (KO, Rachel, TDS, Colbert etc)
Medical/Forensic/Police dramas

There's tons more stuff that I didn't list, which only goes to show that I watch far too much TV. :P

Great choices. I couldn't pick, so I chose the Conventions. Election nights that are great for Democrats would trump that.

2. Here's my list:
1. Bill Moyers

2. Nova

3. Frontline

4. The international mysteries and foreign movies on MHz Worldview TV (shown on my cable access station)

5. Democracy Now (also shown on cable access)

I have very basic cable and I can't stand most network shows.

If you count former series, DVDs, and downloads from iTunes

1. The Sopranos

2. MI-5

3. Mad Men

4. Six Feet Under

5. Life on Mars (British version)

7. Mad Men
previous HBO series that are no longer there, like "The Wire" and "Deadwood"

the new "True Blood" is problematic. It is entertaining in a stupid way.

House porn. HGTV, et al.

The News Hour with Jim Lehrer.

Obscure historical documentaries, where they can be found.

It is very difficult to find anything worth watching at any time. "Reality" tv collectively and deeply sucks, and that is all that seems to be on.

18. It could ALWAYS be worse...
BSG is a favorite show of myself and some of my friends. We often ponder what it would be like in episodes of "Battlestar Galactica: Season 18."

Needless to say, the results are often hilarious and strangely sad. At least they know the show is going to end, and they won't drag it out after it needs to go away.

Just as long as you ignore the whole "Caprica" show coming out next year...

14. Here goes.
Edited on Mon Sep-22-08 10:16 PM by Forkboy
Blackadder (I'd add Red Dwarf and the Young Ones, but they aren't on tv anymore, at least around here)
Nova (basically, I'll watch anything even remotely science related)
Nature
Sports (NHL and the NFL, especially)
Frontline

I went years with no cable but just recently tapped into my landlords connection (no, we didn't ask for permission. When he said something my friend lied and told the landlord that he himself told us we could a couple months ago. He's so high on crack he believed it and said, "Oh, ok." We're bad.)

So here's some guilty pleasures that I've discovered so far.

Ice Road Truckers
Robot Chicken
Battle 360 (friggin awesome show, if you're a history/war buff like me)
Jurassic Fight Club

That's about it. My music regimen doesn't allow time for too much tv...thank Christ. :D

Now that "The Wire" is gone, and "Generation Kill" has ended, let's see:

1. Lost--Despite the incredible number of WTF moments, still a great and addictive show to watch
2. The Office--Side splitting hilarious
3. MLB Baseball--Playoffs are coming up. Go Rays! (Would have loved to see the Orioles and Marlins in there, but at least no Yankees this year!)
4. My Name is Earl--It lost a bit in story quality last season, but still manages to deliver some good laughs
5. True Blood--HBO manages to keep up with its pattern of Must See Sunday Nights (a perfect way to end the weekend). Not nearly as good as "The Wire" or "The Sopranos" but from what I've seen so far, it's pretty good and worth tuning in every episode.

"The Simpsons" and "Family Guy" used to be on that list, but those shows have declined in quality over the past few years. TV News and punditry I watch all the time, but I get a little angry at the whole sensationalization of the news. Then of course, there's C-Span. Actually, to be specific, C-Span with Greta:

Greta, oh Greta.....

For the damned endless pledge drives. I DON'T want see another doowap show rerun endlessly.

Throw in the occasional Andy Griffith/Star Trek rerun, an Iron Chef America, and you have my viewing habits. I watch zero shows on the networks, except maybe "60 Minutes."

On edit: Of course, The Daily Show and The Colbert Report. And Antiques Roadshow, too. History Channel when it actually has history, Travel Channel occasionally. Oh, and The Weather Channel.

I know, that's way more than five.
