OMG!!1!1(elevens)! KETCHUP!!!!!!!!! I CAN HAZ KETCHUP!!!!!

 :toast:  :headbang: :bounce:

For the first time since May, I have ketchup and a refrigerator that is keeping it cold. It's amazing. I feel all civilized again already. My long nightmare may finally be over. I could pinch myself.

Back in May, my 4 year old fridge went stupid and quit working, like Bush at infancy.

Well, we called the company, (under warranty), and they said they only had one licensed repairman within 100 miles of us. Naturally, he was sorry as hell and didn't actually fix it the first time.

It hasn't been working since May. The second time, he shot some Freon into it and that kept it going for like 2 weeks, then we went 3 weeks waiting for him to get around to coming back to pick it up and fix it again. We then had to go three more weeks waiting for him to fix it. He still hasn't fixed it.

Meanwhile, I was buying ice at premium prices and doing without my beloved ketchup. There was no joy in Muddville with no ketchup or milk in the house. It makes Jama very grumpy to have no ketchup or milk. Well, technically, I had bought several big bottles of ketchup during a sale, but I couldn't open them, because there was no fridge to put the opened bottle in. We tried one bottle in the cooler, but it started tasting funky and we had to throw it away.

Well, along about the third week into waiting for Six Fix Not A Lot to find the damn refrigerant leak and fix the fridge, my aunt called Lowe's, where I originally bought the refrigerator.

She merely pointed out to the manager at Lowe's what we'd been through with no Fridge except for that 2 weeks since May.

Next thing you know, we get a call from Six Fix Not A Lot saying he was still looking and Lowe's had given him a deadline. If he didn't find the leak by yesterday, they'd replace the fridge.

This morning, Lowe's brought us a new fridge. I'm so happy. I'm cooking veggie soup with a dash of wonderful fantabulous Ketchup in it. OMG, I can haz ketchup. :bounce: :D

God, I'm hungry. I can't wait until the onions start to cook, so we can EAT.

:kick: :applause: :bounce:

P.S. It will be so amazing now. I can put water in the freezer and it will turn to ice. I just spent the last 3 and a half months buying ice daily, only to stick it in the cooler and have it turn to water. Now, I can turn water into ice. Fucking amazing. OMG, I can haz ketchup. :headbang:

3. It was horrible.
We've been eating out and using ice from the cooler to survive. I'll never forget how horrible it has been. I missed ketchup and milk and mayo the most.

How not having something so basic can turn your life into a living hell? Congrats on rejoining the civilized world and have a glass of water with ice.

That will be when I can stock the new fridge up with goodies to eat. I've been so hungry and thirsty all summer long. It's amazing. My Dr Pepper is already cold. :D

12. My mom kept the ketchup in the cupboard my whole life, and
it never spoiled. I was shocked to see Sniffa keeping it in the fridge. I don't get it, personally.

13. A simple joy in life is those ketchup squeeze bottles with the thin nozzle
so you can get all top-chef fancy and draw those types of lines over the fries.

14. Ketchup (or Catsup depending on brand, etc.) doesn't spoil usually
The high vinegar content keeps it from spoiling. That said, I keep it in the fridge because I like it better that way :).

19. It separates.
Even shaking it doesn't really help it ever taste like it did before. I don't know why, but we did notice a difference in flavor.

27. It's all about perception and expectation.
You expected it to taste different, therefor it did.

Does ketchup you get from a restaurant taste bad? It's not refrigerated. Those little packets from fast food joints aren't refrigerated. Those bottles on your table at restaurants, those aren't refrigerated for the most part either.

28. The packets do not taste bad, but the bottles in restaurants do, to me.

Maybe it is perception, but that doesn't make it taste any better to me.

15. I can totally identify with you...
My SO's fridge wasn't keeping things cold, either, except for one spot where things froze solid. He never cooked, but I do, so he probably never noticed and I was the one who was frustrated. Things kept going bad after a very short time, like leftover Thanksgiving turkey, and not only do I hate to waste food, but I poisoned him twice and myself once... *sigh*

He paid for repairmen to come in, twice, but there was no difference. It didn't bode well when the second repairman who came phoned the first one for advice, the one who didn't manage to fix it the first time... x( He rents, but didn't want to bother his landlord about it, inexplicable to me, but after I made him sick more than once, he ordered a brand new fridge. He says he'll take it with him, though I pointed out that whether he rents or buys, there's going to already be a fridge... *sigh*

But I guess I should just count my blessings. I haven't poisoned anybody since he got the new fridge, LOL. Congrats to you, as well, since I know exactly how you're feeling. I can haz ketchup, too, and milk and ice cream and leftovers! Yay!:woohoo:

16. Yes, leftovers. That makes a HUGE difference.
Before, I could cook a meal, but we had to eat it all or throw it out. So, I was forced to get fast food and those pot roast type meals that you don't have to keep cold. A person can only stand that type of diet for so long before they go out of their minds. I know I was tired of it. I now hate most of the fast food joints. I'm even sick of Sonic Burger. I normally loved it, but now, I don't want to eat there for a long time. A person can only eat so many foot long cheese coneys before they start having nightmares.

25. I know! I like making a nice meal and try to cook healthy,
but my SO still orders out sometimes, since he thinks it's faster, though the fridge is full... Fast food tastes like plastic to me, so it means a lot that I can cook with confidence again. I probably make too much, but I like having leftovers! It sure saves a lot of time to just reheat something, rather than starting from scratch everyday. I do take shortcuts, but I try to include vegs which isn't often easy, LOL, if you're dealing with a picky eater.:-(

Pizza's okay, but I can make that too, though it does take longer than just making a call... The value of leftovers. We are way too caught up in the "fast food" mentality, and I've pointed out more than once that I'm not a drive-thru. *sigh* :banghead:

I congratulate you on your new fridge. I've been there and I hated fearing that the meal that I spent time and care on was only fit for the garbage. I agree with you about most fast food (fresh subs are okay, though it's less expensive to make your own...) and, if I make it myself, I know what's in there!:scared:

And, if you saw the movie "Super Size Me," you know that it's not at all good for you, especially if you make a habit of it. I just have to learn to make less, LOL, since even homemade meals can get tiresome the third time around...:D

29. When I cook a meal, I normally try to make portions
to make 4 plates for the two of us. That way, either later that night or the next day, we'll each have another meal ready to pop into the microwave. It keeps me from having to cook every single time my aunt gets hungry. She gets hungry more often than I do.

If I could afford Subway, I do like to eat there. We also have 1 local fish restaurant that cooks some pretty good fish. I can cook it better though and love to have a Saturday fish fry. Other than that, I could care less if I eat fast food again for a long long time. I cannot wait to cook a meatloaf. That means more ketchup. :D :pals:

33. Good suggestion. I should try that...
The only thing is that I never know when my SO will feel like dinner, depends on his schedule, or what he'll want. I like to have choices. And we don't necessary eat the same things, but that's okay...:-) And he's also more hungry than I am... :9

I love fish, too, almost always choose fish when I go out, since I don't cook it at home. I'd like the chance to learn, but my SO won't touch fish and my BFF is allergic to it, and I don't feel like cooking it just for me, since I'm not usually much of an eater. I do keep frozen fish tenders in the freezer, though...;)

I like Subway, but actually prefer Quiznos. My favorite was the Chicken Milano, on rosemary parm bread with pesto mayo, but they discontinued it and then they closed the local Quiznos... :-(

BTW, how did they do installing your fridge? I have a problem with this one. It was a pain to take everything out of the old one, especially the freezer, but it was kind of fun organizing everything in the new fridge. The new one has three nice drawers and I use one for vegs, another for meat and the third for cheese (We like cheese... ;) )

But I didn't realize the problem with the way they installed it right away. It's in the corner of the kitchen, fits in the space where the old one was. The problem is that it's impossible to open the door the entire way because it hits the wall, so I can never pull the veggie drawer very far out and am in danger of squashing my broccoli or tomatoes... But I don't know where else they could have put it...

And I made meatloaf last night. I bake it with ketchup on top...:D :hi:

18. Congrats
But as a prior GE appliance repairman, I say 'bullshit'. After two repairs, which sound a little shady to begin with, they should have replaced it, no questions asked. But I'm glad you're back in the swing of things now.

20. Thanks.
It is a Frigidaire model refrigerator. I wish I could have afforded Whirlpool or GE, but I ended up with the "off brand" or at least I think it's an off brand. I had never heard of it before. The one I originally wanted had a nameplate on the freezer door that reminded me of old 1950's car logos. The one they sent didn't have that same thing and the fridge didn't last long enough. I really am glad I paid for the extended warranty. I do that now on expensive appliances. On cheaper stuff, I don't.

Clearly he should have been talking to the store about replacing it under warrenty if he couldn't fix it. x(

34. It was.
We had 3 solid weeks in June of 100+ degree days. The ice didn't last so long during that time, naturally. We ended up having to use wash cloths with tap water to cool off. It was a horrible summer. I am glad I can make ice and have ketchup now. :D
