main focus for distraction from the rat race. :)

Hummingbird migration is winding down but it is still active.

All photos are ruby throated hummingbirds.

1. Wow! You are one patient dude!

I stalked these suckers a few times. For you to get such beautiful pictures you had to have stalked them for hours :D

Great pics as usual Maestro.

2. My cousin David is an honorary hummingbird
It's true. A couple of summers ago, during the annual family get-together, he came face to face with a hovering hummingbird. They stared at each other for about two minutes, then - according to David - the bird nodded and flew away. He believes now that he has been accepted into the hummingbird tribe, and will soon be privy to all their secrets.

5. Then he needs to let me in on the secrets.
I want to know why they only sip nectar from the flowers when I do not have my camera with me, but when I do have my camera, they will only go to the feeders. :)

9. I feel that way, too.
When a hummingbird drinks from the hose as I hold it, or sips from the hummingbird feeder as I carry it to hang it, or hovers near me, I feel sort of honored by their trust.

These were all shot with a Canon 40D attached to a Sigma 500mm lens except for perhaps the shots where the hummer is perched on the butterfly bush. That might have been with my 100-400 zoom lens.

Those are great, Maestro! My favorites are the one with the bright orange and the next one, in flight!!

How are things with your father? I've been wondering the past couple of months if things got any better there.(?)

Things are civil. I guess that is the best way to put it. I mean, I can't cut him off from my kids. They love their Papaw and he is never alone with them plus my mom is a good mediator. :)

but no Brewer's or Pinyon. I would love to add both of those and would even love more to add them to my photography gallery.

I especially like the way the first one turned out with that uncluttered background and nice bokeh.

23. I've been told there is no such thing as an apple grove. Only apple orchards. But that was by a
freeper so I'll ignore it for now.

seen one this summer. Except for your lovely pictures.

I love the photo of the bird in flight (the first one); the motion comes through in the picture.

26. They are incredible little birds, and
they are the smallest without a doubt. And to think that they can get their little bodies so far south for winter is mindboggling.

I'd love to get out to your area. Y'all out west have many more species of hummingbirds. :hi:
