Help me pick one
I need to get the husband a laptop. He and I are both 'puter stupid'. He needs one for email, surfing the web and burning music cd's. No gaming etc. needed. Which one should I get? Open to suggestions if you have any.

I didn't post this in the 'Computer Forum' because I want to keep it simple and anything more than "on/off" gets me crazy. :dunce:

That is all,

2. Personally, of the two, I like the Athlon machine
That price looks pretty good. Either one will probably suffice for his needs.

I also prefer HP/Compaq to Dell, but that's just me.

Mostly kicking this so that the more tech savvy folks here can chime in.

Might also want to check newegg.com for deals, too.

3. You said it!
For those basic needs, either of those two machines will do it just fine.

If you need a deal then yes, newegg.com - check them out, then there's Google shopping if you know the exact model number of the machine you want.

There's always the murky world of Ebay, though I tend to use them for buying parts to repair laptops.

But then nothing beats the niceness of a brand new machine.

Mark.

8. Ahhh, yes newegg
I forgot about them. Thanks for the reminder, I'll check their prices for the Compaq.

Think I should stay away from Ebay and refurbished electronics. We're too stupid to go that route. I have a Toshiba that had major HD drive problems the first week. Was great to have them replace it without a hassle.

Love you guys! :loveya:

7. Anything but a Dell and you should be fine
I've owned two Dell laptops and they both were garbage.

4. The Compaq.
Spec-wise, they're pretty similar. The Compaq actually has a slightly better processor, if I'm reading things right. Brand-wise, I'm very leery of Dell, and I know that both my bf and my sister have and like Compaq/HP laptops and have not complained about the build quality or durability.

I'd get the Compaq and use the savings to buy more memory.

6. Looks like I'm going for the Compaq.
Have heard many negatives about Dell, not just here. Thanks Mom!
