NYC area DUers - which museum/attraction would you recommend?
Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 07:57 AM by NewJeffCT
We're going down to the city this weekend to take advantage of the Bank of America promotion on free museum admission on the first weekend of each month:

http://dealnews.com/Free-museum-admissions-for-Bank-of-America-or-MBNA-cardholders/254408.html

These are the NYC museums that are free for us. Which would you recommend if we came with a 5 1/2 year old...

Metropolitan Museum of Art
Bronx Zoo
Jewish Museum
NY Hall of Science
International Center of Photography
NY Aquarium

The museum of natural history is not on the list, which seems the obvious choice for a 5 1/2 year old. But, we could end up going there anyways, or maybe the Statue of Liberty or some place else. We'd likely take a train into Grand Central as well...

Thanks!

1. For child, I'd suggest the aquarium or zoo. Dress warmly, since they're outside.
It's a good aquarium - not the country's best, but it's good.

The zoo, of course, is world-renowned and wonderful, and one can spend a couple days there.

4. Thanks
If it was a bit warmer, I might go for the Zoo as well...

2. if your daughter is anything like i was at that age, i say the hall of science
my grandparents used to take me there when i was little. it's been probably 15 years now since i've been there, but i absolutely love it.

i second the zoo, even though i've never been there. it's always on my list, but somehow i never seem to be able to make it there.

if you didn't have the kiddo, i'd really recommend the jewish museum, but i don't know that she's going to enjoy it. same with the mma, i could spend days wandering around in there.

have a great time! i am so jealous

3. Thanks
I might prefer something inside as well because it's a bit chilly this weekend.

7. Another vote for the Hall of Science
My son is seven and we've been taking him there since he was four. There are cool gizmos all over the place, hands-on activities, and a small outdoor play area.

The Bronx Zoo is awesome, too. I love the NY Aquarium, but it's all the way down in Coney Island so you'd have a long subway ride. :)

Edited on Sat Oct-04-08 09:53 AM by Genevieve
Check google map --

You have to take a train to 59th St (2mins)
and then you swich for the Queensbound "7" train to Roosevelt Ave, a 10 minute ride.

Walk 3 blocks south.

17. I seem to have bad luck...
finding good ethnic food in NYC - we went to a Chinese place for dinner and it was okay at best... I've done similar in the past in selecting Italian places as well.
