Should I get a tattoo?
I've been pondering this for a while now- I have considered something to commemorate my late in life emergence from the closet, but as of yet haven't made the plunge.

What I want: If I were to get one, it would be of Woodstock (see below) on my ankle. I am an absolute Peanuts junkie, and that character speaks volumes to me. He has a Zen-like quality about him that I admire and aspire to (though often fall short of!). True, he doesn't exactly embody a coming-out experience, per se- but his "quiet cool" beat-jazz quality makes sense to me.

So anyway- those of you who have taken the plunge, how did you know it was the right thing to do?

7. That one is really cool....
But bigger than I would ever want. I'm thinking no more than a couple of inches tall on my outer, left ankle.

3. I have 22 tats
Get what you like. If it means something to you at that moment, go for it. Tats for me are like memory time capsules. Even if today I wouldn't do the same thing, I always remember the exact surroundings of my life prior to getting each one. I think the pain burns those memories into your head.

9. My advice is to decide what you want... then wait a couple of years.
If you still want it after a couple of years, then get it.

10. I really want more
I'm going to get three butterflies on the inside of my wrist vertically. They will each be the birthstone colors of my kids (green, purple, blue).

I just need to draw them out. I think about it all the time.

I think Woodstock would be great.

11. I have only one tattoo..a friendship tattoo
It was years ago, but there was a gang of us that was really, really, tight. We used to call ourselves the borg because we were so close. I forget how many, but a bunch of us went and got the same tattoo to remind us of how we were.

13. My ex-foster daughter got "pray" tattooed on her neck
Right below her chin. I was so upset. There are job ending tattoos and there are career ending tattoos. I think she got the latter.

20. My rule of thumb is,
if you can envision yourself in a nursing home at 85 with that tattoo, then go for it.

24. I seriously doubt I'll make it to 85....
and if I do, I'll probably be wearing tube socks to support the varicose veins in my legs and the tattoo will be obscured by that...
