Just had a bird *IN* the house
My wife comes and gets me from my semi-nap.

Our girl cat Pepper ("THE Troop") has it cornered in the laundry room. The boy cat Sundance ("The General") as usual in on the high ground overseeing things, awaiting a report back from "THE Troop".

The bird is in the corner behind the litter box and hiding behind the axe to protect it from the killer ("THE Troop" has several mouse kills under her belt in our old apartment). I am thinking, "Great this thing is lame and I am going to have to kill it". My wife take "THE Troop" out into the den and shuts the door. I use the broom to move the bird towards the door. For a second I think it may have a broken leg or something. Finally it clues in as I open the back door more and use the broom to move it onto the open doorstep.

Finally it flies off. FAST. "Woo" I think "it is okay"

The bird flies directly into the side of my neighbor's house *TONK* and drops down about 20 feet. Not sure if it made it. Didn't appear to be the brightest bird.

3. That happened to me once in the wee hours of the AM
I had to wake my son who was like 7 at the time to help me. I held back the dog and cat while he caught the bird and set it free.

4. sounds like the bird was in shock
too late now but in that situation i keep an eye on the bird to make sure no cat gets it until it recovers and flies away

usually takes less than 30 minutes, can't recall it taking as long as an hour

if necessary i have picked up the bird and held it in an open hand until it recovered enough to fly off safely/calmly, on a few occasions the "stunned" bird noticed me coming to pick it up and decided to wake up and take off immediately

at the end of the day you do what you can do and don't worry about the rest

people react exactly the same thing, if they are being chased by scary monsters multiple times their size they tend to panic first and if they hit the wall, they hit the wall
