11. I'm a little bit of everywhere, I guess.
Some GD/GD: P, some lounge, some sports forum, so on.

Right now, it's a song by Dengue Fever - an indie-pop group influenced by '60s-era Cambodian pop, or so they say. I wasn't around then to verify. :)

5. Technically no...I'm at my command center
Aka my new desk and chair in the spare room. I'm trying out smoking butts avec incense up in here. I really need nicotine to write, amd I've a thesis to produce. So I have a fan on high, blowing out, sweet incense and my cigarette. Plus Jeff Buckley. :)

15. My thesis:
Risk analysis and Decision making in regard to plagiarism in the undergraduate community. :D

It's Behavioral Economics.

So I'm smoking, and getting a feel for my new room. Tomorrow morning, the thesis work begins, avec coffee and butts. I'm not supposed to smoke in here, but I'm mitigating it with strong Nag Champa incense and the fan. :)

29. Behavioral Econ...
Basically, mainstream Economics puts forth models and theories that have no relation to reality and to how people actually think or behave.

Behavioral Econ combines Economics, Psychology, Sociology, etc to approximate how people actually behave/think in reality. I dig it, deeply.

A great layperson's book is Predictably Irrational, by Dan Ariely. Readable and makes Behavioral Econ very understandable. It's the wave of the Econ future, most def. :D

34. Very cool, and let me tell you why.
I took my first econ class as an exchange student in New Zealand when I was sixteen. I got a D!!!!! because I couldn't freaking understand how one could speak about the mechanics of the market, yet completely avoid the phenomenon of human psychology. That's what you're talking about, yes? And, Excellent. Jeebus, how basic is that and why wasn't it around in 1981? :pals:

38. Yes, exactly!
I used to love Econ, but I got to a point where I realized that mainstream Econ was pure BS. Then I discovered Behavioral Econ, and fell in love all over again. It just makes sense. :)

Needless to say, Behavioral Econ Grad programs are virtually non-existent, so I'm going for my PhD in Public Policy or Urban/Regional Planning. I'm ok with that. I couldn't stomach 7 years of mainstream Econ. Ew.

44. Yes, so continue with the fundamentals and apply your other
understanding to it. It's almost a completely different science, but it's real.

I wish I were young again, or able to start over. SCREW psychology and sociology!

Not really. I'd like to get my master's degree. All I need is a WINDFALL. Bi_baby! You're going to do so well!

63. Just go for your PhD, skip the Master's
Take/Re-take the GRE, and get into a PhD program.

Master's = You pay them (loans)

PhD = They pay you (Assistant-ship, etc)

Otherwise nobody could afford a PhD!

Hence why I'm skipping the Master's altogether. Even in a PhD program, you can stop after 2 years and have your Master's.

But they don't want you to know that. ;)

I do tend to think the Master's is a waste of a couple of years. I've never taken the GRE and I'd probably totally fuck it up the first time. Interesting thoughs, bi_baby!

69. Seriously...
Every PhD Prof I have tells me this. If you can get into a PhD program, after the first 2 years, you have your Master's, and then it's just the next 3+ years to the PhD. But yeah, Master's = Loans, and PhD = Assistant- ships, etc, and less debt.

:)

I judge only by your post number. Hand-dying wool, eh? Do you use commercial dyes? I don't do it, but grew up in a household where there were always onion skins a-brewing in a pot.

And the one year old. That lovely child will grow. In the meantime, kiss him/her. :hi:

It's probably my favourite vampire film (and one of my favourite films in general).

74. Just got back from a concert and not working tomorrow.
Turns out the office is still open, but I get to use a "floating holiday".

My throat is shot from screaming at concerts the last two nights. I sound like Bea Arthur at this point, before she's had a morning brandy.

75. I'm up and working tomorrow too.
It's 2am here. I work at 3pm. I might go to bed in an hour or so.

:hi:

78. Well, it's Monday morning...I still am not doing "anything"
Everyone is doing something. I am trying to find work (and mailing in a hardship form for my student loans). Life is what it is. All is well.
