It is surely a mystery. I have sandy blonde hair and so does my husband. Bella was born with red hair. CRAZY!!!

1. I'd rather be dead than red on the head, like on the head of a d*** of a dog
An old appalachian phrase friends of mine used to tell me years ago.
:D

2. Well that is just lovely!! Hers is more of the strawberry blonde kind, but
still very surprising. It seems to get a little redder each day. I guess she will have the temper from hell. Payback is a bitch I hear.

3. Genetics....
You must be both heterozygotes for recessive red..that means you each have a copy of the gene for red hair but in order to actually HAVE red hair you need both copies which Bella got from both of you..Ex: Your hair...Bb (b=red, B=brown..Bb=sandy blonde) your husbands hair is also Bb--Bella is likely bb...
Does that make sense?

7. Ah good ole genetics!! Well if her eyes stay blue I will need to get back
with you! My whole family has dark brown eyes. Everyone but my dad who has green Mine are hazel and so are husbands. No one has blue in his family either. But she is still so young that her eyes can change. But they are pretty blue right now.

25. If you and your husband have anything other than brown or black eyes, then
your daughter's eyes likely won't be brown. Brown and black are dominant alleles, while green, blue, and grey are recessive alleles (hazel is a color that's a mixture of brown/green or brown/green/blue alleles.) So long as yours aren't brown or black, then both of you are recessive for eye colors, which means your daughter's eyes will likely be blue, green, hazel, or grey. Of course, there are always mutations that can occur during meiosis, so that's never an absolute rule. I personally know of someone whose parents had green and blue eyes, respectively, but both of their kids ended up either brown-eyed or odd-eyed (one brown, one green.)

Eye color is a crazy thing. There are several genes involved, and they tend to cross over and mix-it-up when gamete cells are being manufactured. :hi:

26. Eye color is indeed a crazy thing. My father had dark brown eyes and black hair.My mother had
blue eyes and medium brown hair. I am a blue eyed blonde. My husband had dark brown eyes and dark brown hair. Our children were all blue eyed blondes. Their hair color has darkened over the years, unlike mine, but I certainly expected to have at least one brown eyed child out of four.

6. Ah, recessive genes.
Any grandparents or great aunts/uncles have red hair? It tends to skip a generation in my extended family, and then somebody always winds up with a red-headed baby.

We need more pics, by the way!!

I don't know anyone in either of our families that has red hair. But I am sure there is someone somewhere in there.

Mo has a daily kitten photo, Bella should have a daily baby photo...or, if that takes too much time to upload, etc. how about every other week?

29. my son's hair looked strawberry blonde at first, then it was bright blonde
now it's brown/blonde like mine used to be before I started getting so much silver.

And his eyes just after he was born were like black pearls- lovely. Now they are blue.

Glad motherhood is agreeing with you!
