Will motion sickness medicine really stop me from getting car sick?
Reason being, we have to travel on Saturday, 100 miles each way, but I get nauseous if I read in the car, and I have a ton of work to do for next week.

Would taking motion sickness pills enable me to be able to read/write during the trip?

Thanks :hi:

1. It might just make you fall asleep.
That's what it does to me, and to my kids, too.

But if I'm not driving, it's infinitely better than getting sick... wouldn't help reading much, though.

2. most of the motion sickness medicine will make you drowsy though
try a couple ginger caplets. They will keep you from getting nauseated and won't make you drowsy.

3. My cure is napping. Reading and/or writing just make it worse.

4. Yes and no.
Yes, they'll keep you from getting carsick. No, they will probably not enable you to read/write during the trip. I've always been prone to carsickness, and have never been able to read in a moving car, with or without pills. The pills definitely prevent nausea, but they also bring the sleepies.

6. My SIL gave me a pair of these, but I haven't tried them yet.

She swore they helped her with seasickness. No dopey side-effects.

5. The drowsiness side effects are so bad, sailors are banned from using them.
I always used Saltines. They work great.

7. No. If you stay awake to read you'll get sick.
If you don't get sick it's because you'll be asleep.

I've been taking Dramamine since I was a kid, and it almost always works for me but only by knocking me out. Trying to read is a sure-fire way to guarantee motion-sickness regardless of any medication. :(

If you ever find something that really, truly works to prevent motion sickness please let us all know. I'd really love to know about it.
