9. I would imagine that the umps are trying to figure out the best
way to deal with an injured ump, and how to adequately cover the field being one ump short.

took a foul tip to the jaw/collarbone. Replaced him with one of the other umps.

Each ump has his own strike zone, they say, so it could affect the game.
