1. What? You're dissing the Geddy-meister?
You're dissing Spirit of Radio?

Well, you know what song makes me mad? That song YOU like. By your favorite band. If that song was a candy, it would taste like those sucky lime life-savers. If it was a soda, it would be Crystal Pepsi. If it was a sit-com, it would be a spin-off of "Joanie Loves Chachi."

3. You're missing the big picture here.
It's not about the lime lifesaver. It's about the total lack of respect shown to Rush.

How about this: if DS1's favorite song were a piece of candy, it would be a lint-covered lime lifesaver that had fallen down the rainspout.

6. Van Halen's 'Jump'
Makes me want to jump off a cliff.

I can't stand Van Halen, but that one horrible song was so overplayed, and all my friends loved it so.

Van Halen, Aerosmith and GnR are the unholy trinity of suck that I was forced to listen to far too much as I grew up.

8. Any of the shit from 1987 onwards which (to me, anyway) sounded the death knell for top-40 radio.
Anything from Paula Abdul. She a great choreographer but can't sing her way out of a wet paper bag.
Fucking TIFFANY. zomg just kill me now....
Europe with that hokey-ass song "The Final Countdown". Asia, minus the talent.
Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer and Stacey Q all made me want to play in traffic.

That's just a partial list, but pretty much everything was horrible from 1988 on.

13. Honestly, I have nothing against the B-52s.
I think "Love Shack" got way too much air play, certainly. However, I like their music because it's just fun. It's not meant to be taken seriously, as opposed to many of the other acts from the late 80s who collectively brought the average American IQ down a handful of points.

And Megadeth are awesome, but they weren't really on the charts much until the 90s when Metallica's "Black Album" singles got played on MTV 50 googol-brazillion times. By then I'd traded in top-40 for alternative and metal anyway. :)

12. You know, country music used to be good.
Even when it was silly and kinda ignorant, like Conway Twitty or that jackass that wore the overly-sequined suits, it was still honest and from the heart and, even though I don't really like country music at all, I could listen to it. Hell, I saw a lot of those guys in concert: Loretta Lynn, Johnny Cash, Tanya Tucker, Conway Twitty, Merle Haggard, Roy Clark, and so on. Great concerts, great fun time.

But holy fucking ignorant redneck garbage - country music took a great big giant swing from honest, music of the people, relating to lives of hardship, poverty, genuine (even if naive and uncritical) religiosity, to total fucking crap back in the 80s, celebrating a lifestyle of ignorant shitbrain-ness, stupidity, and political assholery.

Just like rock did, except with the flag-waving rah rah bullshit.

70. I always hated that song, too
It was actually the theme song for a TV show at the time, too. Some militarist beefcake was the main character. Tragically, though, the guy accidentally killed himself when he was fooling around with a prop gun. The force of the air coming from the gun fractured his skull, I believe. Hated the song and the show, but I thought that was very sad.

62. I suspect it might be the ham-fisted "libertarian" slant of the lyrics.
"And the trees are all kept equal, through hatchet, axe and saw..." Yeah, because helping the less fortunate is SO harmful to the best and brightest, right? Not a bad song (I don't mind Rush, generally, even if I'm not in love with them), but a decent argument against *heh* letting the drummer write the lyrics.

67. No, not a bad song at all. And there's more than one way to look
at the song. That was during Peart's Ayn Rand phase. He became much more progressive later on. Rush would not have been Rush if Peart hadn't written all the lyrics.
