What is your Favorite Game?
Time for family values.
Kids are home on school break.

Tonight we are having "game night"...
Clear off the table - pass the popcorn - drink some cider..

My games are outdated.
What is your favorite family game?

2. We used to play a card game called Mille Bornes that was a blast.

And my father and I used to have cribbage battles from Hell. First one to win a hundred games. And me and him were brutal to lose to. Bragging rights were crucial. :)

7. I found a PC version years ago...
But it just wasn't the same against just the computer (and it was an old DOS version that only had one computer opponent that wasn't very bright anyways).

We played that, and Kismet (a fun version of Yahtzee).

5. How many kids and what ages?
I used to be a board and card game fanatic when I was younger, and still am today except that I'm also a video game junkie.

Some of my personal favorites:

Scrabble (And now there's even a Super Scrabble out with a larger board and more letters for bigger scores and longer games)
Monopoly (Used to love playing with the money in Free Parking but have since become a rules purist)
Cribbage (Can be played with 2, 3 or 4 people with few changes)
Risk (Apparently there is more than one version of Risk out now, so there's more to the game than just perfecting the Australian Offensive)
Triple Yahtzee (The three scoring columns shift the balance of the game a bit more towards strategy than luck)
Sequence (A little bit more obscure but it's a combination of a board and card game where you win by making 5 in a row)
Careers was a LOT of fun back in the 70s and 80s, and it looks to be making a comeback! By the way, this site is chock full of great ideas if you want to build up a game collection over time:

http://www.boardgames.com/familygames.html

If you have exactly four people, then try card games like hearts and spades which are both enormously fun. Pinochle, Phase 10, Mille Bornes, and Uno are all great fun too.

If you really want to get exotic, pick up one of the more inexpensive mahjong sets and a rule book. It plays like gin rummy, only with three suits of tiles rather than four suits of cards, and some of the scoring possibilities are mind-blowing. The game Rummikub, which can be found in many stores, is actually a stripped-down and easier to follow version of mahjong.

Hope this helps! :D

10. Risk
It's awesome. I hadn't played it in a few years, but started playing it again recently with some friends, and it's still loads of fun.
