Is it possible to print pics on DU off of google images w/o photobucket?
I did this once by accident and I don't know how. I wanted to post a photo of some famous art that I found on Google Images. I forget what I did but I was successful. Once. Since then I have tried and tried. I right click on the image, hit copy and then right click in the message but "paste" is shaded out. Mostly I am trying to copy jpg images, but I've tried others just in case.

BTW, I don'thave Word. I have a brand new Lenovo pc and use Internet Explorer.

Any advice you can give me?

Thanks!

1. It's possible by doing something called 'remote linking'
however, it's considered very unethical. Remote linking to someone else's sight causes a drain on that anonymous individual's bandwidth and in some cases, can cost them fees or violate their site agreements and get them shut down.

Imagine how you'd feel if some unknown turkey on the internet linked to your cool pics and you got hit with a bunch of fees for the sudden spike in bandwidth.

Photobucket accounts are pretty easy to get, and there are myriad other sites of its kind if you don't want to use them for some reason.

2. What's the difference if the pic is downloaded to photobucket and doing it myself?
Sorry, I hadn't thought that through.

I did try photobucket once and had problems, but that was with a very old pc. Maybe now it is better.

3. If you link directly to someone else's site,
you're using their bandwidth. People on DU who click the link, or who pull up your post to view the picture are registered as 'hits' on this other person's site.

If you download the photo (and keep in mind there still may be a copyright violation in doing so) and then upload it to your Photobucket account, (with your name and info attached to it) then any additional bandwidth used, any potential fees or fines are strictly between you and Photobucket. Though, Photobucket and such places don't tend to fine.

4. I was trying to upload some photos of art from Google Images so my question is
from what source do people upload these images without their being a copyright violation of the photographed image of the art (someone had to take the picture of the work)? How does google images get away with putting these photos on their site?

I'm confused...

5. bandwidth used to be expensive but this is no longer a concern

i've never been charged a fee because someone used one of my pictures or because of a rare moment of being "slash dotted" (hit w. lots of links and readers at a time)

there is not even any mechanism for me to be charged such a fee

it has been a long time now since bandwith was expensive, it's now cheap, that's why webmail no longer puts a constraint on how much you can store in your mailbox

whenever some "turkey" links to my site and i get a lot of hits, i'm usually flattered that anyone cares, to be honest

if you are still being charged such fees i guess it's your service that is being unethical as there is no longer any reason to charge for bandwidth
