I am a scofflaw.
:(

I got a speeding ticket tonight.

I was going 59 in a 40. I thought it was 45 but nonetheless, I was speeding....I wasn't paying attention and was on my way to pick up the little MB at her dad's house.

My last ticket was in Dec 07, and I had a clean record until then :nuke:

I really need to slow down........

9. It costs more to process speeding tickets than the revenue they generate
Except in Virginia where they briefly tried giving outrageously high fines as a way of financing roads

12. Last ticket was $150 fine.
I wonder if it will be more for the "second offense"

17. The book Asphalt Nation and common sense
Here are the people that have to get paid when the state writes a traffic ticket:

The judge

The prosecuting attorney

The police officer

Various court support staff.

Any jurisdiction that uses tickets for revenue has very peculiar accounting.

18. Yes, common sense
but sit in a traffic court some morning and count the people paying court costs

even here in podunk NC court costa are 125 and a busy jurisdiction can easily have 3 or 4 parts with 100 "offenders" a day in each one

and that does not even include real fines like for trucks, which there are not as many, but still lots

and the people you say are paid, are they not paid by tax money? if there were no fines, would we have no legal system?

14. Ouch, 19 MPH over the limit is pretty harsh
you might want to go to court and see if you can plead that down.
