2. I think it's mean.
I don't enjoy terrorizing pets.

4. Some places must be off-limits to kitty.
It's better than a dart gun booby trap.

5. You obviously don't have a cat that gets on kitchen counters
I had one a while back. Man, I tried everything.
1. Opened paper bags on the counters. A little hard to cook that way, and I ended up with another cat (a non-offender) quietly snoozing in one of the bags.
2. Plastic wrap. Never deterred the cat, but again, try cooking with plastic wrap all over the counters.
3. Aluminum foil... see above.
4. Typing paper sprayed with rubber cement. Warning, don't get them too close to the stove.

Solution: I found someone who wanted a barn cat.

7. Seems pretty expensive
they make a product for that exact purpose, and no I don't think it's mean.

http://www.amazon.com/Contech-StayAway-Automatic-Pet-Deterrent/dp/B000DZFFN4

They're usually less than $50, and refills are much cheaper once you have it.
