Rain, rain, beautiful rain!
We are getting soaked here on the central CA coast. We've got a fire going in the hearth, dinner in the oven and a movie lined up to watch with the kids.

Ahhhh....cozy. :loveya:

How y'all doin' on this Saturday night? :hi:

1. I'm knitting socks, as usual
Alternating between two pairs, one for a man and one for a woman. Grey/Black and Various shades of purple. Quite a contrast. It's cold here.

3. I've always admired people who have skills in the crafty realm.
Good for you. Practical, creative....

Enjoy your evening! :hi:

7. I am completely in awe of your ability to do socks.
I'm fine with scarves, shawls, afghans, certain sweaters--sock patterns might as well be written in mandarin. Completely intimidated by them.

Just started a looooooong pink scarf that my mom requested as her Christmas present. :hi:

9. Babe, do this:
Get Cat Bordhi's "Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles"

Get 2 24" 2 or 3 size circular needles. I'm currently using Susan Bates brand.

Do the Simple Sock

And I'll walk you through the "Picking up the Gusset Stitches" step, b/c the sock does a total 180 on you the first time you try it. :D

15. Seriously, I was SO scared to do socks!
And I initially tried on DPNs, but it was way too fidgety for me. I've used DPNs on hats and stuff, but socks just was a mess.

The Cat Bordhi book, while very bare bones, is awesome. The Simple Sock pattern is a fantastic way to get knitting socks without most of the frustration. You'll be fine on the cuff and the heel flap and the heel turn, I'm sure. It's the picking up the gusset stitches that throws people on this pattern.

I'm wearing a pair of these socks right now, and I have 2 pairs of the same pattern on the needles right now. It's very meditative. :D

16. I can't wait!
Several of us at work have discovered that we all knit, so we have a knitting lunch once a week for everybody to get together and work on their projects. It's re-motivated me to try some new stuff.

There's a Stitch n' Bitch on Fridays at the Queer Student Union on campus, but I'm in class then. Grrrr.

23. Ha! That's what we call ours, too.
It's a little dangerous, though, because it totally stokes my yarn lust. "ooooh, that's pretty yarn--where'd you get it?" :7

12. Oh gawd...that pic. LOL!
I haven't been riding as much lately.

I'm three wks into a 2 yr Master's program for Counseling Psychology. Back in school again, after 22 yrs. It's a big deal and I'm stoked.

I'm in an adjustment phase, trying to get in the groove with all the studying and yet managing the kids and family, too.

It helps that the kids are a bit older now. 12 and almost 15.

Wish me luck!

5. It's totally pouring here. First big rain of the season.
I'm into my second glass of wine.

The cat is stretched out in front of "HER" roaring fire.

8. How am I doing?
Watching it rain, rain, rain, rain ,rain ,rain ,rain
rain, rain, rain, rain ,rain ,rain ,rain

Then I take a break to start supper but soon I'm back to
rain, rain, rain, rain ,rain ,rain ,rain
Watching it rain, rain, rain, rain ,rain ,rain ,rain
rain, rain, rain, rain ,rain ,rain ,rain

Not complaining, mind you. I hope we have enough rain this winter to stave off a drought.

10. Meanwhile, only about 40 miles ESE of ya
all we've got right now are a bit of wind and clouds. I'm watching the radar, though, and we're gonna get hammered by the back end in about an hour.

We were supposed to tape a football game tonight (Gavilan vs. Monterey Peninsula College) but they canceled the call because of the weather.

18. Yup
There's some orange and even some bits of red on the radar, so it's gonna be a good'un. Looks like it'll hit just in time for the kickoff, too.

The eastern edge of your storm is over Gilroy right now. Poor bastards gotta warm up in it.

Tonight's attendance: 3. :D

17. It certainly is a nice evening for a fire and a movie
I love the sound of the rain on the roof. And it makes everything smell lovely. Not so much fun if you have to be out on the roads, though. It amazes me how these Californians forget how to drive in the rain every year. :eyes:
