Dang Sarah McLaughlin and her abused animals commercial
I just can't take it anymore. I tear up every f-ing time. I love puppies and kittens and I'm glad they're raising money to rescue them.

But I just can't bear to watch any more- it's too upsetting. I'm serious.

2. The song
I know! In the arms of the angels...

It breaks my heart, too.

12. Some trivia on that song
"Angel" was written by McLachlan about Smashing Pumpkin's keyboardist Jonathan Melvoin, who OD'd in '96 on heroin, the drug actually being the "arms of the angel".

It is a very sad song.

3. They have been pushing that one on TV today like it was a damn political ad
I don't want to lump these poor critters in with John McCain and Dino Rossi, but I'm reaching for the mute button just as fast any more.

5. Check out "The Witness"
a Tribe of Heart production.

I think that this is where Sarah first gave her voice to animals...against fur.

11. I went to a fundraiser for them at Lincoln Center a couple of years ago.

It was the debut of that film.
There were times that I had to close my eyes...I just could not watch the cruelty. I have to give credit to those who were able to watch and record the events...so that the world could know what is going on in the slaughter houses around this country.
Among the many wonderful speakers was a former cattle rancher who had become a vegan! It was amazing listening to him tell of his epiphany, and why he felt that he had to travel around and tell his story.

8. I've seen it a hundred times tonight too, and I was watching MSNBC for politics!
I think they ramped up that commercial for the extra viewers watching politics over the weekend. A good thing for people that don't see it as often as people like you and I do.

But it breaks my heart too. I have 3 rescues already. I kept putting that commercial on mute tonight, cuz I couldn't stand the heartbreak anymore. ;(

9. Damn MSNBC for being my source of politics..that damn ad was on all night
hubby and I had to keep changing the channel

We have a family of 4 fur babies - all rescued 3 dogs and a cat. Currently we also have a 'guest' who is becoming more and more of a family member, a german shepherd rescue (my mom's dog)

yet everytime that ad is on, hubby and I have to talk each other down from running out and adding to the family.

16. It's still going on today, and as much as that commercial breaks my heart, I must kick this.
I have to put it on mute when it comes on. But as painful as it is for us to see over and over again, I think it excellent timing to reach a lot more viewers this weekend that otherwise don't see it.

I am willing to sacrifice the heartbreak if it brings more people into the cause and results in more awareness for rescues and donations. I suspect their phones are ringing off the hook this weekend. So in that sense, the utter pain and despair it projects is a good thing. Cuz it's true.

:-(
