This is just barbaric!! WTF!?!
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 08:14 PM by Breeze54
:sarcasm:

I just found out that, in my new town, all the liquor stores close at 9 PM!

:wtf:

Gheesh! I knew I should have moved north!! Up there, they're open until 11 PM!!

I don't get it at all. Please tell me I didn't move to a "Nanny county"! :grr:

Cripes, I should have stayed in Nevada. :P

I gave up beer a while ago. Pot belly and all those middle age bummers. :(

BUT I did find out that the local huge grocery store actually sells beer

and wine and are open until 11 PM but... I don't drink either usually.

I guess I'll just have to learn to plan ahead and I hate it!! I guess

I'm spoiled from living in the SW. They have drive through liquor stores!! :P

8. Yeah, it's a bit harder (and a lot less legal) to distill the harder stuff unfortunately.
And I don't have the patience to wait for a good scotch to mature anyway. :P

6. 11 pm is just as barbaric!
Out here, we sell booze in grocery stores and the only time you can't buy it is between the hours of 2 am and 6 am.

Now that is civilized.

10. OK... I stand corrected. The store near me closes at 9 PM every day but
Edited on Fri Nov-21-08 08:50 PM by Breeze54
the guy behind the counter (who looked like a cop) told me that

there are 3 other stores in town that are open until 11 PM.

But get this one!! The one that closes at 9 PM?

It got voted the BEST Liquor store of 2007!! :wtf:

I'll be changing THOSE results this year!!

At least they're near me.... really near to me! ;)

I guess you do! LOL

But I got there before they closed, 12 minutes to spare. ;)

It's just that it's so friggin' cold out and I just got home
and forgot to stop to pick something up and then found out,
before I could catch my breath that I had to go out again,
if I wanted something for tonight. Brrr! & Grrr! :P

17. should have
I've seriously thought that if I ever move back to the US that Nevada may be the place for me. I'm spoiled here by having a liquor store just down the street that's open 24 hours - the only one in town.

20. I kind of knew about that stupid law here before I moved but
the price was right for what I'm getting and I can always

head north, if I want to or need to, I guess.

But there are 3 stores, he said, that are open until 11 PM.

But the store that I can walk to closes at 9 PM. :(

I sure do miss the 24/7 lifestyle of nevada though.

I really liked that freedom, even if I couldn't stand all the RWers.

21. Ok, it can be worse! My county doesn't even sell liquor. No liquor stores
AT ALL in my county. You can buy beer and only beer (ok, and wine coolers... blech!!). But luckily, the next county is only like 2 or 3 miles away. But still....

And my county also sells NO alcohol on Sundays. Again, luckily the next county over is only 2 0r 3 miles away.

Bible belt? Yes indeed!!

22. I'm in Mass and I thought we had outlawed the "Blue Laws" but apparently
THIS county/town is clinging to them still. I feel your pain!
I'm in my 50's now and it's only been recently that we all didn't
have to drive over the state line to buy alcohol on Sundays! But
closing at 9 PM, to me, is just an aggravation. I mean, if they've
got a license to sell then they should use it! Especially on a Friday night!!

23. But they're slowly going away.
Asheboro, NC legalized booze (finally!) and have their ABC store open ready in time for the holidays. Saves them from having to drive to Greensboro for liquor now.

Mark.

some people that are terrified of liquor stores. They equate liquor stores to strip bars. I am serious. They ran ads once saying if we had liquor stores, the next thing would be bars and strip joints on every corner. So ridiculous that it is almost funny except it is scary instead.

30. Maybe you should remind them that it'll save lives.
I mean, if people didn't have to drive miles to get what they want,
then that would mean less drunks on the road late at night, right? ;)
