My lower back is freakin' KILLING me.
Guess it's a good thing I have some rather pleasantly potent herbal analgesic on hand, eh?

You know the old saying "See you on the flip side!"? Well, this IS the flip side. :headbang:

1. Do you have a heating pad and a recliner?
Use both!! ;)

I hope you feel better soon!

Back aches/pain really suck!

8. Change in weather?
That's what it is with me- it's aggravating the arthritis in my back.

6. Yer a good kid, but ya gotta lay off the drugs..
Stretch the hammies. Tight hamstrings can exacerbate lower back pain.

Try a progressive stretch. Hold behind your knees for ten seconds, then touch your toes, then the floor. You should get a nice twinging/burning right behind your knees.

11. If I tried the progressive stretch that you describe
My next post would be made while in traction. What you describe as "a nice twinging/burning sensation, I would characterize as "jagged daggers of fire twisting in your hamstrings."

But that's just me.

12. If there's one thing I hate it's a healthy person.
And don't you TELL me you're a jogger too- if you are, well... have you ever watched Death Race 2000? It's inspiring to someone like me...

15. I second Robert Benchley's response
When told he should go outside and get some exercise: "What!? And risk being hit by a meteor?" I wonder about those joggers I see running alongside heavy traffic. Surely all that carbon monoxide can't be good for them...

16. Oh, hell no
I need to lose about 35-40 lbs. I've let myself fall apart over the last few years.

At one point I could run 2 miles in about 17 minutes (Army standard), but if I tried that today, I'd be a meal for the crows in the trees out back.

I do keep up the stretching routine, though. It helps wake me up in the morning and decompress at night. So, I'm flexiblly flabby, I guess.

14. Great back stretching exercises
you can look these up

NSAIDs (Ibuprofen) and Aleve are great by the way *I'm a runner by the way)

But the best back stretching exercise I have found is to get on all fours
-then lift your left leg and right arm parallel to the ground
-hold for say 10 seconds or so
-switch (right leg-left arm)

do a couple of times after getting your body warmed up

it works
