Cell Phones and calling 911 - any experience?
If you call from a land line they know exactly where you are.

But what if you call from a cell phone?

1. You'll get directed via the closest tower

to a law enforcement office. They may have to transfer you, but it's usually in the same county as your location.

4. What I'm thinking of is this:
What if you're incapacitated? If you called on your land line they could call your house. If you call on your cell, can they find you?

How's life, hon?

5. I think as long as you stay on the line
they can find your location. Just don't disconnect the call. Most new phones have built in GPS.

Life's pretty much the same. How's yours??

6. I'll say I'm feeling very fortunate these days, and wishing I could share it.

8. Depends on what equipment they have
All the new Cell phones have a GPS in them and will give the position on a 911 Call. The question is what equipment does each dispatch center have to receive and display the information. Most inland maps don't have Lat/Lon on them and personnel are probably not trained in plotting locations on a map/chart.

3. I only have one experience with this
and I have no idea if it had anything to do with being on a cell phone or not.... I got a recording: "All operators are busy please stay on the line". Somehow I doubt that was about landline vs cell, but it was very wierd all the same. I am glad I didn't no one was seriously injured when I called...

9. 9-1-1 location on cell phones is getting easier to determine
The tower redirects you to to the nearest 9-1-1 and also determines your relational postilion to the tower. Triangulation or some such thing.
