Does alcohol help with emotional pain or exasperate it?
I have to go out right now but when I get back I will be anxious to see what you all say. That song, "Help Me Make it Throught the Night" has so much more meaning to me now.

1. In my experience
any good feeling I got from drowning my sorrows was far eclipsed by the negative consequences.

10. Ditto
What's the point of tippling when the unpleasant aftermath creates fervent regret.

2. supposedly alcohol ENHANCES your emotions
If you are happy, you get more happy, if you are angry, you get more angry, if you are depressed, you get more depressed. Just learned this yesterday actually.

3. It may feel like it helps, but from what I can gather, it only makes it worse.
I think that is why there are so many drunk ex calls.

4. Alcohol + Vicodin
helps like hell. Then you wake up and it sux twice as bad. Working out and slimming down is the best revenge. That is, if your emotional pain is caused by a breakup.

11. It'll do both, if you're alcoholic --
it'll do neither if you're not.

Having a few drinks never hurt anybody -- lie! But having a few drinks with other people and letting your yah'yah's out can be very healing as well as harmless, if you watch yourself.

13. I don't know.
It doesn't help, that's for sure. I'm drunk right now, but I don't know how I'm typing coherently. Maybe it's because I know where the keys are.

usually to the detriment of the consumer. (just speaking from my own experience here)

17. In all seriouness, I defer to the quote from the Simpsons on the subject...
"Beer. The cause, and solution, to all of life's little problems."

18. Alcohol is a depressant
While under the influence, you may feel better but it is a depressant so when it wears off, your mood will be worse. This then causes one to drink again to feel good but then one ends up worse. It's an awful cycle.
