I woke up at 4 and realized I had no power. I found a couple of candles in the house and lit one and went in search of my cell phone (to find out what time it was). I tried to go back to sleep for a while, but all I could hear was branches and tree limbs snapping in the back yard. I decided that if I were going to get to work, I'd better get up, pack a bag to take a shower at the gym (which is at work) and get out of the house.
Just getting down the stairs outside was a real treat... ice.
I have about half a mile to get to a main road, and in that half mile the road was half-blocked three times by big tree limbs that had fallen.
I drove about 45 mph on the Mass Pike and got to the parking lot at 6:50.
Took a shower and here I sit.
Closer into Boston, there's no ice (as opposed to where I live, near Worcester) so I think I'm safer here. I'm definitely going to be warmer. And at least here, there's something to do.
Wow... what a mess!
(I called my son and told him to move his car as far away from the trees in the back of the house as possible. I think he was pretty pissed for me waking him up at 6:00, but he'll thank me if I save the car from falling trees (which line the back parking lot behind the house).
