I can't believe I made it into work today
I woke up at 4 and realized I had no power. I found a couple of candles in the house and lit one and went in search of my cell phone (to find out what time it was). I tried to go back to sleep for a while, but all I could hear was branches and tree limbs snapping in the back yard. I decided that if I were going to get to work, I'd better get up, pack a bag to take a shower at the gym (which is at work) and get out of the house.

Just getting down the stairs outside was a real treat... ice.

I have about half a mile to get to a main road, and in that half mile the road was half-blocked three times by big tree limbs that had fallen.

I drove about 45 mph on the Mass Pike and got to the parking lot at 6:50.

Took a shower and here I sit.

Closer into Boston, there's no ice (as opposed to where I live, near Worcester) so I think I'm safer here. I'm definitely going to be warmer. And at least here, there's something to do.

Wow... what a mess!

(I called my son and told him to move his car as far away from the trees in the back of the house as possible. I think he was pretty pissed for me waking him up at 6:00, but he'll thank me if I save the car from falling trees (which line the back parking lot behind the house).

1. Oh I hate ice storms more than anything else in the winter.
Glad you were able to get out ok. I know my parents had at least one ice storm to deal with and more on the way it seems.

3. I'm one of the only ones who showed up so far
I have no excuses though, I live two blocks from work. Most other people drive in from Western MA and Southern NH, lots of people calling out - no power, horrid commute. Oh well, I just hope the day goes by fast!

4. sounds awful!
glad you and yours are safe - it's no fun to not have power in the winter. Hopefully it will be back on soon.

That used to happen to us all the time due to all the trees having ice on em and affecting the power lines. They cut some trees down near here, and it hasn't happened since then.

Stay safe and warm!

6. We got stomped hard here in the Portland area.
It looks like Godzilla came through, if Godzilla breathed ice instead of fire.
