1. I disagree
I think he was a *young* sot who wrote nothing but shite.

Actually I have a real soft spot for *Ulysses.* It's the *Ulysses* geeks who scare me. Worse than Star Trek geeks and a lot less well-adjusted.

Yee ha,

2. I liked "Dubliners".
How did that go?

As Tyson was riding into Jerusalem,
He fell and hurt his Alex Kafoozelem? (sic)

"Ulysses" and "Finnegan's Wake" -- and I have read both -- are shite.

3. The best thing about Ulysses
is the pub crawl that they do nowadays.

9. And I do so hate those unmentionable pink neon signs

quoting his work that are scattered all over Dublin.

11. ROTFL
That's a temporary art installation; it's a big fucking deal in the art world, apparently. They'll go away eventually.

4. And to the list of shite Irish writers....

8. Hey! Leave Beckett alone!
*Endgame* can actually be very entertaining if you do it right. Ditto with *Waiting for Godot.* Later on he went quite mad, but let's not throw the baby out with the soiled nappy.

I've never been able to get through anything of his...I haven't tried for a long time, maybe I should give him another chance.
