Is anyone else flabbergasted by these ads for Amish made electric heaters?
I've seen these damned ads everywhere lately. Evidently Amish people are slaving themselves day and night to make *electric* heaters for you, and are giving them away FREE!!

That's right FREE!!!

All you need to do is pay for the wood casing, evidently, and since it's Amish it's all sunshine and horse shit, or something equally country/folksy. The wood casing is 250 bucks, but the heater attached to it is FREE. That's like a car dealer selling you a ten thousand dollar tire but offering the car for free. I wonder if I could just get them to send me the heater, without the casing? Doubt it.

The part that really amuses me (as if Amish electric heaters wasn't amusing enough) is the fact that there is a *strict limit* of 2 per household. Evidently this is so that we don't kill those poor Amish people from overwork. Anytime I see a 'limit of n per household' I cringe.

BAH!

I bet they all go home and watch American Idol Farm Edition on their 52 inch plasma TVs.

2. I am completely over that commercial.
It annoys me more than most commercials, which is saying something.

I am also over Michael Phelps and his Rosetta Stone commercials.

4. I've actually been tempted by Rosetta Stone.
I did not buy, and passed the test.
Thus I will fade, and pass into the lands of the west.

19. They tend to use the pay phone at the post office, but
they only go there once a week.

We live near a lot of them here in PA.
I have no idea about their heaters, but they make sheds and shit like that for storing yard tools.

Also grow good apples and squash - we get some produce from them in the fall.

15. That's where I first saw it, a few years ago...
Amish people build the mantles and the heaters are made in China.

16. The Amish just make the wood mantle, not the heater..
My boyfriend's father bought one of those. He was so excited about it when he got it. (He's 89.) But I think you have to be pretty close to it to be warmed by it.

Apparently the Amish are more involved in the semisecret overlordship of our country than I had realized.

23. I've wondered if the people in the ad are actually Amish
I didn't think Amish liked being photographed, let alone filmed for a commercial.
We actually have one because my MIL just had to buy 2 because she found an ad where you get a discount with 2.
My opinion in the short time we've had it: It's a space heater that won't catch things on fire and works decently to make the room that you and the heater are in warmer. I don't know if it is worth as much as they are charging but it better than the crappy space heaters costing under $50 that we had bought in the past.

26. Last night
my husband and I saw the commercial for the first time - It was on during Olbermann.

We both said WTF?

Amish people are not supposed to have "lekricity" - they are not supposed to be giving away stuff that they wont even use themselves - they are supposed to wear funky hats and make their own cheese.

Of course we were amused - it was kind of like a Monty Python moment.

When the ad said limit, 2 per household I burst out laughing! I gots to gets me some free heaters!

29. I'd be very much surprised
if any actually Amish people had anything to do with these things. But I'm not surprised in the least that a good portion of the population is falling for the adverts. We are a nation of goobers.
