What's the last film you've seen?
I just saw "The Visitor," definitely one of the best I've seen in awhile.

It's written and directed by Tom McCarthy, who also made "The Station Agent." Fans of "The Wire" might recognize him as reporter Scott Templeton in the final season.

"The Visitor" is a lot like "The Station Agent," a low-key, character-driven drama. Richard Jenkins (Nate Fisher, Sr. from "Six Feet Under") is the main character, but I don't want to give away any of the plot details. Just see this movie -- trust me.

So what have you guys seen?

1. Last one I watched, two nights ago, was "The Edge" (1997).
Pretty good lil' survival/action flick (complete with trained grizzly bear!), starring the great Anthony Hopkins and the not-so-great (but good in this one) Alec Baldwin, written by David Mamet.

4. He's done a lot of uncredited script work.
He contributed a lot of the dialogue for "Ronin," the De Niro action movie from about ten years ago.

From DVD. Last time I went to the movies? Hmmm... Madagascar 2.

Kids and not wanting to impose on family who already look after my son in the week does limit the movie choices I get to see.

59. That was pretty much my review as well
Of course, everyone is going to compare it to CR but I understand that it holds up well to repeated viewings so I look forward to picking it up when it's available.

My favorite exchange:
Bond: (at a dirty, small motel in La Paz) What are we doing?
Fields: We're teachers on sabbatical. This fits our cover.
Bond: No, it doesn't. I'd rather stay at a morgue. Come on.
(they go to a nicer hotel)
Bond: (to the hotel receptionist) Hello. We're teachers on sabbatical and we've just won the lottery.

61. Am I wrong or was the boat he was driving in that one scene named "Goldfinger"
I only caught a glimpse, not really sure. Makes me wonder if there weren't other things like that though. If so that will make it splendid for repeated viewing.

I think the ending tied up both movies quite nicely.

The part in that apartment. And the after.

That's about as non-specific spoiler-proof as I can get...but I trust you know what I mean. :hi:

62. There's one very obvious nod to Goldfinger
but that's probably the least guarded spoiler ever. Still, I won't describe it here but you know what I'm talking about.

Hmmm... I was thinking the boat chase was reminiscent of the one in FRWL.

The ending tied everything up. I especially liked what he dropped in the snow at the end. No sentimentality for this 007. At least, not any more.

63. I really like Daniel Craig as Bond.
And I didn't think I would.

To tell you the truth, I watched Casino Royale on DVD about 2 days before seeing QofS. I did so because someone told me it was necessary or I would be lost.

I chose to see QofS because my hubby was planning to see a chick flick which I wanted no part of and QofS started about the same time.

Anyway. I fully confess.

My prejudice against him was completely unfounded.

64. That's funny
A woman told me that after watching CR she finally understood why Bond is the way he is towards women. The dehumanizing aspect of the business described by Fleming was finally brought to the big screen.

I never had any reservations about Craig after watching Layer Cake but I was concerned about the project in general when I heard that they were taking Bond in a new direction. Turned out my concerns were unfounded.

It's an amazing work of art.
